DIY yarn pumpkin Hannah Patnode

It’s not the fastest but it only takes about 20 minutes to create each pumpkin and less than a day to dry. These are cool and fun decorations for the fall season. If you make any, take a pic of them and tag us, The Eagles Eye, on any of our platforms.

Materials

  • Yarn (preferably pumpkin colours, but any work)
  • White glue (or mod podge)
  • 1 balloon
  • 1 brown and 1 green pipe cleaner
  • You can get most to all of these materials at the local dollar store

Step 1

Blow a balloon up to a desired size. The bigger the balloon the more yarn and glue you’ll need, the smaller it is the more egg-shaped it becomes. You’ll need to cut the yarn into 12 pieces about 36 inches per string. You can change these to how you feel fit.

Step 2

Pour the glue into a bowl. Do NOT water down the glue. Dunk the yarn pieces in the glue. Making sure they get glue all over them. Gently run them between the prongs of a fork but isn’t drenched to where it’s dripping glue Take the glue yarn strings and press the end down somewhere on the balloon and wind it around the balloon, do this for all pieces. Press the yarn down to secure them when they’re in place so they can stay in shapeDrying: Hang the balloon somewhere to dry, it should take less than a day to dry

Step 3

CRITICAL: Make sure to press your fingers down under the yarn on the balloon to detach the glue from the balloon. If you don’t then the yarn will be pulled to the inside when the balloon deflates. Make a small hole in the balloon close to the knot so it won’t pop, this is so you can detach any string you may have missed while it deflates. Then once all the strings are detached you can pop the balloon.

Step 4

Make the pipe cleaner stem and vine by wrapping it around the pinky finger or pencil works too.The stem is just a tight spiral, so tuck the end of it into the yarn. Do the same with the vine.
