Monday, Nov. 14, 2022

Dear University community,

  • TAMIU observes International Education Week Nov. 14 – 18. Take a peek at what we have planned.
  • TAMIU Giving Day begins tomorrow, Nov. 15. This is our annual opportunity to come together and give to help make futures here better and brighter. Find out more here. See what your fellow students are supporting by giving.
  • Tonight, the TAMIU Percussion Ensemble will host its Fall Concert at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall. It’s free and open to the public. See the full range of CFPA performances below.
  • On Wednesday we’ll offer another Student Vaccine Clinic from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Student Center Rotunda, first floor. The Clinic is offered in collaboration with the Gateway Community Health Center. If you receive your COVID-19 Booster on site, you’ll be eligible for a Starbucks Gift Card. This is a great way to protect yourself, family, and friends over the Thanksgiving Break.
  • Some 1,645 TAMIU students will be recognized for their on-time degree completion during our Student Success Wall Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. on the second floor of the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center. This ceremony celebrates students who are graduating on-time in four years since beginning their freshman year at TAMIU.
  • I hope all enjoyed our first visit to TAMIU by the Texas Shakespeare Festival (TSF) Roadshow, which presented “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Macbeth” here last week at our CFPA. The performances were outstanding and we thank Dr. Kaithlyn Culliton, TAMIU assistant professor of English, who championed this effort and secured grant support from Humanities Texas and the Texas Commission on the Arts. Thanks also to our CFPA crew for lighting and technical support. This was an impressive offering and we hope we’ll be able to welcome TSF back in the future.
  • Wildlife on campus deserves your respect AND your distance. They all belong here, and we want to maintain a peaceful co-existence with them based on respect and distance. They are wild animals. They are not your pet. Find out more.
  • Good News… New hours of Starbucks operation are Monday - Thursday from 7 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. That means you can get your coffee on campus BEFORE you head off to your 8 a.m. class or work. Closed Sat - Sun.
  • COVID-19 is still a threat here, across our State, nation, and world. Recommended face coverings/masks, and rigorous hand-washing can help reduce your exposure risk. Learn more about free on-campus testing.
  • Finally, as Thanksgiving nears, Finals for the Semester are on the way. See the schedule below.

Let’s all work together to create a great week…Go Dustdevils!

- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President
