The 'Best Dressed' Rock Star is awarded a real electric guitar to keep for the week. Their name will also be added in gold to the back of the guitar to immortalise their status.

Why TT Rock Stars?

At ISB, we are on a mission. It is our aspiration that every pupil knows and is able to recall their multiplication tables to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. There is no short cut to learning multiplication and division facts. Without a solid knowledge, pupils will struggle in all areas of the Maths curriculum at ISB.

When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to do harder calculations.

Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help pupils master the times tables.

To be a Times Tables Rock Star you need to answer any multiplication fact up to 12×12 in less than 3 seconds!

All pupils in Year 2 - Year 6 at ISB have a login for TT Rock Stars. Pupils will be using this programme in school daily and they will also be encouraged to use it at home as part of their daily home learning: just 10 minutes per day will make a huge difference. It is recommended that your child does a little bit of times tables practice every night. Short bursts on a daily basis are more effective than spending hours once a week.

Pupils will be able to compete against each other and pupils from around the world. As they play more, their confidence, speed and accuracy will increase. Each week, high scoring pupils and bands (groups of pupils) will be celebrated in our Assemblies. Parents will be invited as pupils are inducted into the 'ISB Hall of Fame' (full details below).

All pupils will know their 'Rock Star Status' and work to improve on their knowledge and scores. We will also be launching TT Rock Stars ECA's and intervention sessions for pupils requiring additional support. We know that the pupils will love competing to be a 'Rock Hero'.

If you require an additional account or you would like to use the app as a parent, please contact the Primary Office. Accounts must only be used by the assigned pupil to ensure that we have accurate statistics (more info below).

How to play

Play online or download the app

TT Rock Stars can be accessed online via the web address in the link above - your child has their own login and password given to them on a sticker in their communication book. Class teachers also have a copy of each login. There is also an app for the iPhone/iPad and Android: just search Times Tables Rock Stars.

When they first login, your child will choose their own rock star name and design their own avatar. The more they play, the more they will be able to customise their avatar and develop their Rock Star persona.

Game Modes

Single Player

Garage - the questions will come from the times tables set for the week. It will include multiplication and division questions. As pupils start to answer questions, TT Rock Stars works out which facts they take longer on and will give them more of these questions to answer. The Garage is best for getting quicker at a few facts. Players get 10 coins per question.

Studio - the questions in the Studio can be anything from 1×1 up to 12×12. TT Rock Stars calculates the mean response time from their last 10 games in the Studio and translates that time into a Rock Status.

If you don’t play in the Studio you don’t get a Rock Status.

Players earn 1 coin per question and the Studio is the place for them to set their best time across all the tables.

Soundcheck – When you play Soundcheck, you get 20 questions each with a 5-second time limit. The questions are multiplication only and evenly weighted in terms of difficulty each time you play. Players earn 5 coins per correct answer.

Multiplayer

Rock Arena - The Arena allows players to compete against all other members of their Band (their Bandmates would need to join the same game in order to compete together). A new Arena game starts every 15 seconds and once the clock starts they race to answer more questions than the others. In the Arena, questions will only come from the times tables the teacher has set for the week, similar to the Garage. They earn 1 coin per correct answer.

Rock Festival - The Rock Festival games are open to players from around the world. Like the Arena, there is no limit to the number of players who can join a game; however, unlike the Arena, questions are selected at random from 1×1 to 12×12. Pupils might choose the Rock Festival if they were playing at home (and therefore couldn't easily synchronise playing against a classmate) or wanted to compete against others not in their Band. They earn 1 coin per correct answer.

Stats

If you click on your avatar icon in the top right of the screen and then click My Stats, a heatmap like the one below will load. It shows how successful your child is at each of the facts.

In school, your child's teacher will use the stats generated by TT Rock Stars to provide targeted interventions for pupils requiring additional help with their multiplication tables. The more a pupil uses the app, the more information we will have in school and the better we can help your child to improve.

Who is in the band?

Our [very silly] videos to launch TT Rock Stars at ISB

Hall of Fame and Awards

During our weekly assembly, we will be awarding both individual and group achievements.

Best Dressed

Our weekly award for the best accuracy. Who will have the 'best dressed' avatar each week?

ISB Hall of Fame

A place in the ISB Hall of Fame is reserved for the very highest scoring and most improved pupils. During our weekly assemblies, we will be inducting new members into the Hall of Fame. Names of new members will be published on the Primary Newsfeed each week alongside the House Points.

Rock Star Status

As pupils increase their speed an accuracy, they will improve their Rock Star Status from 'Wannabe' all the way to 'Rock Hero' - the ultimate accolade.

Battle of the Bands

Band competitions will be announced weekly. These could include one class against another, one year group against another or even pupils vs. staff. Battle of the Bands competitions ensure that every pupil experiences success as part of a team. All pupils add to their band total each week by using TT Rock Stars. Battle of the Bands will be announced each week in Assembly and the results published to the Primary Newsfeed.
