The Baker Blast April 15, 2022

Above: On Thursday, Mrs. Philips and her 7th grade scientists enjoyed a day of learning outside on our patio. With the onset of Spring and the warmer weather, students are looking forward to using our outdoor learning spaces.

Happy Easter, Passover, & Ramadan to all our staff, students and families who celebrate!

Calendar Events

Autism Acceptance Spirit Week Schedule

April is Autism Acceptance Month. In the past, you may have heard about 'lighting it up blue' or showing puzzle pieces to support Autism Awareness. There has been a shift in the autism community, and they do not feel as though they are a 'puzzle' that needs to be solved. Instead, the focus is on kindness, inclusion, and acceptance.

Baker supports this idea and will be celebrating Autism Acceptance and Inclusion next week, April 18-22, with a Spirit Week! Our LINKS from our Peer 2 Peer Elective Class, along with our Kind Club, have organized days to highlight the characteristics of autism and educate our building. We hope the takeaways from this week (and this month) are that our differences are not viewed as deficits and love and acceptance go a long way!

Late Start: Wed. April 20th

PSAT 8 & M-STEP Information

Next week, the 8th grade students will take the Social Studies and Science sections of the M-STEP in their Social Studies and Science classes. This will be an online test. Students will need to bring their iPads to school and make sure that they are fully charged. If possible, please avoid absences during your student's scheduled testing dates.

6th Grade IM Boys/Girls Track Season

6th Grade IM Boys/Girls Track starts April 29. Pick up an information/permission packet outside the Media Center. There will be an informational meeting this Friday 4/22 after school in the cafeteria. Contact the Coaches with any questions.

Baker Robotics Team Clean Up

Over the past couple Sundays, Mr. Stephen Hatfield and the Baker Circuit Breakers Robotics team engaged in community service, cleaning up around the school. They had 4 students (and a few parents) show up each Sunday to help work on trash pickup in the parking lots by the building, around the baseball diamond and in the woods along the drainage areas.

There was quite a bit of waste scattered around the campus, including some particularly interesting items like a car battery that was right by the stream's edge, half a tricycle, a couple of parking cones, cans from the mid 70's (pull-tabs!) and more. They are putting into action our school’s AOK core values and are a clear representation of responsibility, community engagement, and leadership. We appreciate their service to our community!

Students involved in the cleanup: (some not pictured)

  • Chetana Gopu (8th)
  • Sean Benton (7th)
  • Shivank Jayadeva (7th)
  • Vignesh Subramania (8th) Came Multiple Sundays!!!
  • Gia Vidyanandan (6th)
  • Vrinda Boopalam (6th)
  • Xavier Fontecchio (5th - an "intern" that is joining the team next year)
