Stories and Songs Nursery, spring term, week 2

Not all learning can be planned for and certainly not the most fun kind... the type that involves snow! Our week started with a decent amount of snow, just the right consistency for building mini sculptures. Check out the little ducks. The children sang one of our favourites 'Five Little Ducks' whilst playing.

Exploring the possibilities. We loved the texture; it was sticky but not wet. By the afternoon it was slippy enough for some sledging down the hill.

Following on from our story-map work last week, the challenge this week was to put the familiar but jumbled up story back into order. We used vocabulary like 'beginning', 'middle' and 'end' as we worked.

Re-ordering the familiar story.

It was a dough-disco week for us which means some finger strengthening exercises in the form of poking, slapping, twisting, and squeezing the play dough. All of the teachers have noticed this week how good our listening and concentration skills are now getting.

Finger-dancing to the music.
'Roll it'.
Many children have taken the muscle strengthening work from last week (drawing large rainbows) and have been practising it in their play. Lovely!

There was lots of determination and pride was seen during maths groups this week. We've been studying what the number two looks like and what it means. We collected pairs of items and compared what we found. Then we had a go at writing '2'.

Finding two
Comparing pairs
Celebrating all things 'two'.

I'll leave you with a last little insight into our week. It's impossible to capture every wonderful moment but here are some highlights:
