Welcome to our new St Mary's Weekly Newsletter!

Parents' Evenings

Thank you to all parents for attending this week's parents' evenings via Teams. It was lovely to see you all and to report on the super progress being made by your children. Da iawn pawb! Mr O'Toole's class parents' evening will be rescheduled on his return to school. We wish him a speedy recovery.

School class photos will also be rescheduled later in the year when we hope the number of Covid cases will have reduced.

CAFOD WALK AGAINST HUNGER

Wow! Look how far we have walked together!

As part of our Walk for Hunger in support of CAFOD, each class will be collecting spare coins/ change in their CAFOD boxes. Perhaps you could encourage family members to ‘sponsor’ you or give a donation for your CAFOD box!

Our Service of Peace and Prayer- Thursday 31st March

Next Thursday 31st March, we are inviting all children to make a minimum donation of £1 to wear their own clothes and to join our outdoor 'Service of Peace and Prayer' in our beautiful new 'Garden of Hope.' We will be praying especially for all those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

For many years, the parish of St Francis of Assisi, Llay have maintained a close bond of support to the Annunciation Parish in Sumy, Ukraine, and over the years have arranged reciprocal visits, fundraised and donated many thousands of pounds to help the Sumy parish and their local orphanages and special school.

As our school belongs to the parish of St Francis' in Llay , we would like to support their fundraising as they are making arrangements to welcome refugees from Sumy back to Llay. Therefore, all monies collected next Thursday will help support many people displaced by the war in Ukraine at this very difficult time.

Please support us in our on-going efforts to extend the hand our love and support to those in need through both our continued prayers and financial help. Diolch

Collection buckets will be on the gates for all donations. Many thanks

Look at what we have been learning this week!

From fossil hunting, to handling data, to investigating 'blood', to creating fact files, to creating diaramas... What a busy week!

Mrs Lane joined us again this Monday to deliver well-being and yoga sessions to Years 1-6 as part of our 5 ways to well-being programme. A big thank you for helping us to ‘keeping learning’ and 'keep active.' Diolch.

Class Assembly

Today we enjoyed watching the Robins' Class assembly all about how we can protect Wally the Walrus' natural habitat. The children were amazing! Parents will be sent a video of the assembly via Seesaw. We know they will be in for a real treat! Enjoy!

St Mary's Catholic Primary - Reviewing our School Vision

As a whole school community, we are revisiting and updating our school vision to make sure it is relevant to our shared aims and new curriculum.

Please help us to make sure that you are represented in our school vision by adding your 'top three' for each of the headings below. Just a word or two, or even a small phrase would be really beneficial. Diolch yn fawr.

Keeping everyone safe- Covid 19

Once again, we have seen an increase in the number of Covid positive cases which have affected both children and staff over the past week or so. If you have been sent a letter/ email advising you of cases within the class/ contact group, please take lateral flow tests in the morning before coming to school. This will help us to limit the risk of further transmission within our school community.

In addition to the 3 classic symptoms of a cough, high temperature and loss of taste or smell, we are noticing that many children who are testing positive are also displaying some of the following symptoms :- vomiting, headaches, runny nose, sore throat (symptoms similar to the common cold)

Local Authority advice remains that all children and staff who are displaying symptoms of illness or testing positive on an LFT or PCR test should not come to school and continue to isolate.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
