"...having done all, STAND!" Communiqué :: MARCH 2021

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus..."

Hi everyone,

The Covid 19 Pandemic has definitely placed a great strain on everyone, every family, every organization - be it business, NGO, political entities and even the churches.

Churches around the world are still trying to find ways to effectively minister to their members and maintain a strong outreach focus. Although there are many similarities between churches and other organizations, there is one notable difference – the reason for our involvement is not monetary but because we SERVE. Because of this, the strength of the service depends largely on the spirit and attitude of the one involved.

How do we continue to serve in this environment that has placed so much strain on the leaders and members? Phil. 2:1-11 provides some guidelines:

  • We need to encourage a Christlike atmosphere v1-2Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind”.
  • We need to maintain unity of being in the same accord and mind v2 “then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind”
  • We need to consider others more important that ourselves v3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves”
  • We need to look after the interest of others instead of ours v4 “not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others”

Finally, we need to pattern our leadership and ministry after Christ v5-11 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature [a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature [b] of a servant”.

We may be deprived of certain facilities and opportunities because of the pandemic but I know the Holy Spirit is more than able to use us to meet the needs of others through the different ministries in the church as we weather through this season.

Your Pastors,

Pastor Ong Sek Leang & Pastor Nancy Ong

I’m from Colombia and I had planned to go to see my parents in September last year. However, I was led by The Lord to go at the beginning of March. It was just on time before the lockdown. Had I delayed and not obey I wouldn’t have been able to get to Colombia in time for the mission the Lord had for me.

My father, who was 92 years old had been quiet sick for over a year. A month after I arrived there, he got very sick so I had to take him to A & E. Unfortunately, because he had high fever, he was isolated in the area designated for COVID-19 patients. He was tested and the results were negative so he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Another Covid test was done, which came out negative, before he was allowed to go home and finish the treatment there. He was at home for 12 days but although he was recovering, he suffered a relapse and I had to hospitalize him again and again he was isolated. Sadly, few days later he went home to be with The Lord without any of us in my family being able to see him and say good bye.

However, in the midst of my pain and physical exhaustion, The Lord gave me the strength to deal with all the things that needed to be done; the hospital’s paper work, the recognition of the body, which was very painful, arranging for the funeral in the midst of a pandemic, where not even my mum or older siblings were allowed to attend due to the COVID-19 restrictions. I had to spiritually support my mum during this difficult time and do spiritual warfare as she was being tormented by evil spirits after my dad’s departure but thank God It was by the grace, wisdom and strength that God gave me that I could battle and overcome these difficult situations.

Then later my mum was the one that had to be hospitalized due to a bad infection. Due to the government’s restrictions in hospitals because of the pandemic, only two of us from my family who were younger than 60 years old, were allowed to visit and take care of her.

After 12 days she was allowed to go home to finish the treatment there. Then her GP advised us to test my mum for the COVID-19 because she had been in the hospital for several days and there was a chance that she might have contracted the virus there.

Unfortunately, she tested positive so my siblings and I were debating whether to take her to the hospital again. After the terrible experience with my dad, I prayed and felt it was better to treat her at home so that’s what we inform the doctor. She received the treatment at home and I’m so grateful to The Lord that she didn’t need a ventilator, although she as well as my dad had issues with their lungs for several years. She recovered from the COVID-19 and I give all the glory to our God.

When I took care of her at the hospital, I didn’t use the face mask while I was in her room, so when she was diagnosed with COVID-19 everyone thought I must also be infected. I did the test and glory to God it came out negative. Even before the pandemic started, I often declared that any disease germ, virus or bacteria that touches my body dies instantly. I also declared that no plague or calamity shall come near my dwelling. I often also pray the whole psalm 91. Job 22:28 says: “declare a thing and it shall be established”. God’s Word is powerful, He’s our healer and refuge. To Him be the glory.

There were many things that I needed to arrange of my father’s estate. Thanks to The Lord’s favour and intervention, it was just the day before I came back to KL that the most important documents were settled at the Notary Public. I thought I’d have to come back to Malaysia leaving things unfinished but I had the peace of The Lord that everything that I needed to do would be done. Truly, The Lord was in control during the 8 months I was there and I managed to finish my mission.

So, I want to encourage all my brothers and sisters, these are the times where we need to cling to The Lord and His promises even more. He’s faithful and His Word never fails. He’s our shield and strength, indeed our every present help in time of trouble. We need to have a firm foundation on the Rock so when the storms come, we’ll be able to stand.

I also want to thank the staff in Metro who prayed for me.
