Breast Friends
Breast Friends provides no cost prosthesis and mastectomy bras to women who have lost their breasts due to breast cancer. There is no cost for the service, although donations are welcomed.
At this time we are able to offer prosthesis once every two years, and one bra every year. If you wish to have additional supplies, you can purchase them through us.

External breast prosthesis may be the only option a woman has, especially if she doesn't want to undergo reconstructive surgery By CBWF Staff In February 2014, CBWF became aware that the local American Cancer Society was going to end its breast prosthesis program, which provided no-cost prosthetics and mastectomy bras to women who have undergone single or double mastectomies.
CBWF’s board of directors felt that this service was too important to the women of the Coastal Bend not be provided locally, so they unanimously voted to undertake the program. The American Cancer Society gave their remaining inventory to CBWF. The program began providing services in June 2014. Like real breasts, prosthesis come in many shapes and sizes The impact of having a breast amputated is physical, social, and psychological. After having breast cancer and a mastectomy, a woman is often worried about her appearance. External breast prosthesis may be the only option a woman has, especially if she doesn't want to undergo reconstructive surgery. This surgery can be invasive, and some women do not have the financial means for it.
External breast prosthesis can allow a woman to feel confidence after going through such a traumatic event. Like real breasts, prostheses come in many shapes and sizes. This causes a programmatic and funding challenge, since a large inventory must be kept in stock to serve all body types. CBWF does not have any funding for this program and will seek individual and foundation grants to maintain the program. Donations will keep this program going CBWF has set up a room to provide space for the program and recruited volunteer fitters from the community, as well as employees who donate their time to help the women seeking assistance. These same dedicated volunteers act as the Pink Auxiliary to help guide the development and survival of the program.
