Results from Plagiarism Prevention Module Review

The goal is to come up with a module for plagiarism prevention that can be implemented in Blackboard courses starting in the Fall of 2021 per the choice of the faculty member. Dr. Mitchell is not mandating, rather, highly encouraging faculty to assign it to their students as a reminder on maintaining Academic Integrity in their academic career.

After review of the committee by way of vote, here are the tentative rankings of potential plagiarism prevention modules for this Fall:

  1. Hoonuit within Blackboard (50%) more people leaned towards #1
  2. Blackboard Student Orientation (50%)
  3. Univesity College Academic
  4. Library's Credo (25%)
  5. Student Conduct and Community Engagement

The committee recommended that the eLearning group hold sessions so faculty is able to make an informed decision on which module to assign.

Fix Your Content Day Results and Review

This year's 10th annual "Global Accessibility Awareness Day" (GAAD) took place on May 20th and Blackboard organized its second annual worldwide competition "Fix Your Content Day". This competition was created in the same spirit of GAAD's mission: Digital access/inclusion for all types of learners.

Throughout the competition TAMIU faculty and staff utilized Blackboard Ally, a digital accessibility solution, to assess course files and fix those with accessibility issues. Enhancing accessibility provides solutions that can ease access for differently abled users. For example, a “fix” could include adding a description to an image so a screen reader can describe it for the visually impaired.

TAMIU placed 16th among the Global Leaderboard, 1st in the A&M system (out of three other participating institutions) and 2nd in Texas with a total of 4,084 fixes, more than doubling the amount compared to the total of last year's 1,753 fixes. Additionally, TAMIU was recognized with the distinction of "Diamond Club" for reaching over 4,000 fixes, the highest ranking of the four designated achievement clubs: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond. To read more about TAMIU's dedication to digital access/inclusion, visit the official TAMIU press release about the event.
