Summer term 1 Nursery class 2022

We started this half term by reading Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see?
The children enjoyed retelling this story using a story sack and props.
Deconstructed role play has been introduced into provision over the past few weeks. This allows the children to use their imagination as they engage with open ended resources creating play experiences that are meaningful to them.
5 tiny caterpillars arrived in nursery class. We looked after them carefully and watched them grow and change, first into a chrysalis then emerge as a butterfly!
The children listened to and retold the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This story introduced us to the life cycle of a caterpillar.
We also learnt the song 'There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf'. If you ask your child they will sing it for you at home.
The N2 children have been learning different graphemes and are starting to use them in their independent mark making.

A giant visitor!

One day when we entered Nursery we discovered that a giant visitor had been in our classroom and left some clues. The children discussed who they thought the visitor might have been using a wide range of vocabulary and imagination.
The Giant sent us a message explaining that he has lost his golden key and that he needed our help to find it. We drew maps and used positional language to help the Giant find his key.

One of the poetry basket poems that we learnt this half term is called 'Sliced bread'. The children can recite this poem clearly using words and actions.

We have certainly made the most of the nice weather this half term!

The N2 children have been developing their teamwork skills through different activities, this is something that we will continue to build on over the next half term.

As we head into the final term this academic year the theme for learning will be 'travel and journeys'
Our key story will be 'The train ride', we will read and retell this story using a story map.

Some other books that we will be reading over the next half term are:

Some songs that we will be singing are:
The wheels on the bus.
Row row, row your boat.
Down at the station.

Literacy

In literacy the children will continue to use their developing phonic knowledge when mark making.
Adults will encourage children to engage in extended conversations about stories and learn new vocabulary
N2 children will continue to embed their ability to recognise and continue rhyming strings (cat, hat, mat...) and alliterative phrases (billy bob buzzy bee).
They will also continue to learn different phonemes (sounds) each week alongside practicing the skill of oral blending and segmenting (More information will be available on SEESAW)

In maths over the next half term children will be:

Experimenting with symbols and marks as well as numerals.
Continuing to look at and describe different patterns.
Recognising and continuing simple repeating patterns.
Counting sounds or objects that cannot be moved.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will be listening to different types of music and talking about how they make us feel.
At the end of this term, it will be time for our oldest children to spread their wings and prepare for full time school.
Throughout the term the children's new class teachers will be popping in to say hello and further information regarding transition into school will be communicated soon.
