Story Time at BSM · Cuentacuentos en BSM

Just recently I received an inspiring email from Jo Woods, who works in Primary Intervention; a place where students can receive additional support or a place where they can be further stretched and challenged, depending on their personalised needs. Jo is one of those very versatile colleagues who can turn her hand to almost anything and she constantly thinks of how we can get students to engage in learning. In her email, she expressed how she believes it to be very important for students to have stories read to them in English at home and what better way to do this by getting our own teachers to record stories that can then be shared on social media or our school website. This means each evening when children are going to bed families can tune in to the next chapter of a story, read by staff at The British School of Málaga. We plan to get recording in the next few weeks and will let you know when our first story will be available. Please do let us know what you think of this new initiative.

Hace poco recibí un estimulante correo de Jo Woods, una de nuestras asistentes de Intervención de Primaria: el lugar donde los alumnos reciben apoyo adicional o donde se les anima a rendir aún más, dependiendo de sus necesidades personales. Jo es una compañera muy adaptable y que puede hacer bien las cosas en cualquier ámbito, que está siempre pensando en cómo enganchar a los niños para que aprendan. En su correo me expresó que es muy importante para los alumnos que se les lean en casa cuentos en inglés. Y qué mejor manera de hacerlo que aprovechando a nuestros propios profesores, quienes grabarán cuentos y luego los podemos compartir en nuestras redes sociales y web. Así, cuando los niños se vayan a acostar las familias pueden ponerles un capítulo de algún cuento leído por la plantilla de The British School of Málaga. Hemos pensado en empezar a grabar cuentos en las próximas semanas y les anunciaremos el lanzamiento del primer cuento tan pronto como esté listo. Estaremos encantados de escuchar sus opiniones sobre esta nueva iniciativa.

Winter Uniform · Uniforme de invierno

Can I please remind families that we have switched to winter uniform, it is important that on cold days students should be wearing school uniform and not wearing other non-school clothes like hoodies. The new uniform has a blazer that will be very useful on cold mornings. Students should only be wearing PE kit on days when they have PE and all students should be wearing navy or black shoes. We have sold out of many of the St George items of uniform; if your child does not fit any of the other St George sizes the expectation is that they will need to wear The British School of Málaga uniform, we will not be purchasing any more of the old St George uniform. Ties are part of the new BSM uniform and need to be worn by all students.

Me gustaría recordar a todas las familias que ya hemos cambiado al uniforme de invierno. Es importante que en los días fríos los alumnos lleven puesto el uniforme, no otras prendas del tipo sudaderas. El nuevo uniforme tiene una americana que será muy abrigado por las mañanas. Los alumnos sólo están autorizados a llevar uniforme de Educación Física los días que tengan la asignatura y todos los alumnos deberían llevar zapatos azul oscuro o negros. Ya se han terminado las existencias de muchas de las prendas de St George. Si sus hijos no disponen de todo el uniforme de St George completo, tienen que llevar el uniforme de The British School of Málaga y deben dejar de comprar partes del uniforme St George. Las corbatas son parte del nuevo uniforme y es una prenda que deben llevar todos los alumnos.

New Student and staff Social Event · Evento para los nuevos alumnos y profesores

This week we invited all new students and staff to a midterm social event to hear first hand how their first term has gone at the school. We provided light refreshments and had students from Year 1 to Year 12 mingling with each other and sharing their BSM journey so far.

Esta semana hemos invitado a los nuevos alumnos y profesores que se han incorporado a The British School of Málaga para escuchar de primera mano sus impresiones a la altura de la mitad del primer trimestre. La reunión se celebró con refrigerios y un aperitivo a la hora del recreo y asistieron los alumnos de Year 1 a Year 12, que tuvieron ocasión de relacionarse con otros compañeros y compartir su trayectoria en BSM hasta el momento.

Year 5 Teacher (during Ms Donsophon's Maternity Leave)

Jane Barker

My name is Jane Barker and I am the new maternity cover teacher in Year 5. I am originally from Sheffield, but have been living and working in Nottingham for most of my teaching career, since qualifying in 1994. However, I spent six years teaching at two different international schools in Northern Cyprus, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Therefore, I am delighted to have the chance to teach abroad once more, giving me the opportunity to build quality relationships with my class, whilst inspiring them to achieve their personal best. It is also a privilege to be working alongside helpful, talented and friendly staff, as well as being able to enjoy all that the Spanish way of life has to offer.

Me llamo Jane Barker y soy la profesora sustituta de Year 5 por baja de maternidad. Soy de Sheffield, pero he estado viviendo y trabajando en Nottingham durante la mayor parte de mi vida profesional, desde que me titulé en 1994. No obstante, pasé 6 años enseñando en dos colegios internacionales en el Norte de Chipre, experiencia que disfruté mucho. Por lo tanto, estoy encantada de tener la oportunidad de enseñar en el extranjero de nuevo, de construir una bonita relación con mi clase al tiempo que les inspiro para que consigan todo lo mejor. También es un privilegio trabajar con una plantilla tan talentosa, amable y dispuesta a ayudar. Y seguro que voy a disfrutar de todo lo que el estilo de vida español tiene que ofrecer.

Las personas interesadas en la asignatura de Turismo suelen ser apasionadas por los viajes y tienen la conciencia de ayudar a los turistas para que aprovechen al máximo sus vacaciones bien sea en su propio país o fuera. Para aquellos alumnos que estén interesados en los viajes y tengan entusiasmo por la dirección, este año hemos lanzado la asignatura de A Level de Turismo. El turismo es una industria mundial, con una gran variedad de salidas profesionales. Las habilidades que se adquieren son fácilmente transferibles. Además de ser una persona con inclinación al trato con el público, un gran número de trabajos en el sector turismo requieren de ser muy diligentes y también ser creativos. La gente que trabaja en turismo tiene un papel decisivo que desempeñar haciéndose cargo de que los viajeros tengan una fantástica experiencia. El turismo es una de las más dinámicas y competitivas industrias del mundo. En todo momento se están desarrollando nuevas ideas y opciones desde cualquier punto de vista. Mariceli (Year 11): Gold medal for junior dressage in Andalucia · oro en doma clásica juvenil de Andalucía

We are proud to share with you another sporting achievement from one of our students. Mariceli M.R., Year 11 won the gold medal in the junior category of the Andalusian Dressage Championships which were held at the Dehesa Montenmedio Country Club at the end of October. Congratulations Mariceli!

Nos gustaría compartir con mucho orgullo un nuevo logro deportivo de una de nuestras alumnas. Mariceli M.R., que cursa Year 11 este año, ha obtenido la medalla de oro en la categoría juvenil en el Campeonato de Andalucía de Doma Clásica celebrado a finales de Octubre en Dehesa Montenmedio. ¡Enhorabuena, Mariceli!

Riojan Lunch · Día de La Rioja en el comedor

This year, we are introducing Gastronomic Days into the lunch menu. These will be themed menus from the various regions of Spain as well as International. The idea is that the children try different dishes from around the world. The first of Gastronomic Day will be the 14th November when we will celebrate food from Rioja. Students will be able to try two different dishes and a dessert typical of this region.

• Caparrones con sus sacramentos (a Spanish stew made from a variety of red kidney bean and chorizo)
• Huevos a la riojana (Eggs Riojan style)
• Melocotones al Mosto (Peaches in a freshly crushed fruit juice)

Este año se van a introducir las Jornadas Gastronómicas en el menú del comedor. Habrá menús temáticos basados en las distintas regiones de España como internacionales. La idea es que los niños conozcan la gastronomía y platos típicos de distintos lugares. La primera sesión tendrá lugar el próximo 14 de Noviembre. Será la Jornada Gastronómica de La Rioja y en ella se degustarán dos platos y un postre típico:
