Muck fires By: kahanui
Muck fires are made from the under ground layer of loose soil and organic material which is known as muck. When fires burn down into the muck, the organic material ignites and produces a smelly blaze. The muck fire embers smolding underground long after the surface fire has been extinguished. It is dangerous because it can spread underground to burn roots and trees which will fall and kill people and houses
When you try to put out a muck fire with water the muck fire becomes swamy and tracks mosquitoes
Muck fires spread underground through roots and trees
The muck fires are everlasting fires
Muck fires have a ton of smoke that spreads around
The smoke that muck fires release can cause get you sick because when breathe in too much smoke your lungs get sick
This topic is seen in the book when Caroline and Paul smelled the smoke and kind of freaked out and the mom got mad when Wayne got to their house 20 minutes after they called and told them it's ok and you can't get rid of the fire. The mom wasn't too happy with him or her husband because he dragged them out there to live and now they live with that. It could cause them to get sick if they breathe it in too much smoke. It's important to the overall story because it might get someone super sick and kill them.
