Isham Update May 2021

Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness

Head Teachers’ message

We are really excited for our Sponsored Fancy Dress Fun Run next Thursday 13th May – it promises to be a great fun and will hopefully raise some much needed funds for our EYFS and Y5/6 classrooms.

Until restrictions are lifted, can we politely remind you to continue to ensure social distancing and mask-wearing whilst on our premises. Additionally, should anyone in your household display covid19 symptoms, or require a covid19 test, the whole family should isolate until a negative result. Please do not send ill children into school, nor send them in if they have been in contact with anyone with symptoms.

We are hoping to merge into a KS2 and KS1 bubble after half term and would like to minimise the risk of any bubble closure.

Please continue to phone or email should you need either of us – we are always willing to discuss any issues or just chat something through, although we are both looking forward to having you back in school when we can.

Flora - Our School Dog

Flora the school dog has spent the last few weeks settling into school life - and the children have absolutely loved having her around! She has enjoyed spending time in each classroom, bringing a sense of comfort and calmness with her smiley face and waggy tail. She has really made herself at home in Yr5/6 where she can now happily be left for a nap! She has enjoyed listening to readers and also joined Yr 3/4 for a run around at break time. There is so much cuddling going on - it’s difficult to know who is enjoying this more – the children, or Flora!

Relationships, Sex and Health Education policy – consultation

We all recognise that today’s children are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This environment presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. Children need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.

This year, for the first time, the government has made Relationships and Health Education compulsory in all primary schools in England and has published statutory guidance which sets out the legal duties with which schools must comply when teaching this. The government is clear, however, that parents / carers are the prime educators for children on many of these matters. Schools complement and reinforce this role; building on what children learn at home is an important part of delivering a good education.

The government’s guidance includes statutory content that schools have to teach. In primary schools, the government’s aim for the teaching of Relationships and Health Education is to put in place the key building blocks of healthy, respectful relationships, focusing on family and friendships, in all contexts, including online. These building blocks sit alongside the essential understanding of how to be healthy; teaching about mental wellbeing is also regarded as central to these subjects. This compulsory content will be taught within the wider programme of Personal, Social, Health and Education.

The guidance also sets out the rights of parents/carers to withdraw pupils from Sex Education (but not Relationships or Health Education) and the process that headteachers should follow in considering a request from a parent. Parents have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from some or all of Sex Education in primary schools.

In view of the information above, we would like to invite you to give your views on Isham’s specifics in PDET’s draft RSHE policy. Documentation is currently on our website, and any comments should be emailed to head@isham.northants-ecl.gov.uk or alex.price@ishamprimary.org.uk Please return all comments by Friday May 28th - it is envisaged no virtual meetings will need to take place.

All pupils at Isham CE Primary School have been invited to take part in a Stamp Design Competition which has been launched by Royal Mail, asking children to design their own "Covid Heroes" stamps

For more information please click on the link: https://www.stampcompetition.ichild.co.uk/

In order to post the entries by the closing date we need all children's entries to be handed in to school by no later then 20th May. Thank you.

Governors

We are still seeking to appoint a parent governor. The remit is no longer standards and finance, but developing relationships with the Church, the village and the parents. If you think you have the skills to help us, please let me know and I can share further details with you. Alternatively, you might like to talk to some of our current governors – Kylie Tattersdale, Peter Kraftl, Jolene Court and Debbie Barton.

Sponsored Fun Run

We are delighted to announce that we will holding a sponsored ‘Fun Run’ in order to raise funds for our school. Our new Mile Track, which has been installed around the perimeter of the playground, has proven a huge hit with the children and this will further encourage them to be active whilst raising funds and having fun!

This will be taking place on Thursday 13th May 2021 and children can run in fancy dress too! (Pupils can come to school for the day in fancy dress or school PE kit).

Any funds raised will go towards a new outside area for our EYFS/Reception children and improvements to the Year 5/6 classroom.

Thank you to everyone for all your support.

Remote Parents Evening

Our teachers will be holding Video Call Parent Evenings on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 19th May – 5:30pm – 8pm
  • Thursday 20th May – 3:30pm – 6pm

Liz Harrison is currently training as a forest school lead which, with Helen Hughes, will give us two qualified leads and enable us to extend Forest School provision right through into KS2. There are plans to enhance 'The Willows' as a permanent Forest School base for the children, so watch out for begging letters from Helen and Liz for donations or man power!

Pre-loved uniform has been selling well, thank, you to anyone who has donated. We always need, good quality pre-loved uniform particularly PE kit. Please email, FB message or talk to Sarah with preloved uniform questions. Has your child barely worn their new school shoes this year but already out grown them ? If they are in good condition consider donating them, I’m sure there will be plenty of interest next September when the new academic year starts up.

There is also a Clothing Bank in the KS1 playground so please donate any clothes or shoes. Thank you to everyone who signed up to Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile. If you haven’t already, please sign up, online shopping is such an easy way to raise funds. https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/ishamprimary
