Subject: Receiving The Power To Be Witness

Scripture: Acts 1: 6-11

6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

The Youth of Steele Hill is collecting nonperishable food items for Hope of Lancaster from October 2 – October 30, 2022. Some of HOPE’s greatest needs are:

  • dry cereal
  • Jiffy corn muffin mix
  • stuffing mix
  • pasta (any shape)
  • juice
  • spaghetti sauce
  • instant mashed potatoes an
  • canned tomatoes
  • canne
  • canned goods

You can place your items our container in the vestibule. Thank you in advance for your continuous support of our children and youth.

LAY COUNCIL OBSERVANCE SUNDAY!

The Connectional Lay Council of the AME Zion Church Mission “to prepare and equip laity for life discipleship in the Kingdom of God by maintaining effective ministries that evangelize, encourage and edify the laity.”

This week, yours truly talked with Mr. Melvin Stroble at a meeting. Mr. Stroble is a member of the Lancaster County School Board and has visited Steele Hill. He asked that when we have alter call for prayer, please pray for him.

Everyone impacted by Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Preparation

The National Weather Service for Columbia, South Carolina reports that hurricane Ian will bring in heavy rain and gusty winds across the state, which could result in flash flooding Friday and Saturday and isolated tornadoes. These effects will not be isolated to coastal areas. Now is the time to ensure you and your family are prepared and able to receive critical updates in case of an emergency.

WHAT CAN I DO?

Plan

1. Make an evacuation plan and know your evacuation route. Click here to learn your hurricane evacuation zone.

2. Make sure everyone in your family is aware of your evacuation plan and zone.

3. Ensure you have a disaster preparation plan in place for your pets. Learn more here.

Prepare

1. Assemble an emergency kit with 3-5 days of supplies, including important family documents, for you and your family. Learn more here.

2. Keep an eye out for Wireless Emergency Alert messages being sent to your phone.

3. Register for CodeRED notifications via phone call, text, or email. Sign up here.

4. Monitor local broadcast TV and radio for Emergency Alert System updates.

5. Bring a spare battery for your NOAA Weather Radio.

6. Bring battery packs and extra cables to keep your devices charged.

Protect

1. Bring in any outdoor pets.

2. Clean out gutters and yard debris.

3. Bring in lawn furniture and children’s toys.
