introduction/organization
My name is Grace Charlebois. Im a junior in high school this year and its my first year taking this class. I am looking forward to exploring my creative talents. I want to learn more about how to make my art work really come to life. I cant wait to see my progress over this year and apply what i have learned into my art work.
september reflextion
I have had a very pleasant time in art class this year. I always look forward to art because it really calms me down and in all of the artwork that we have created this year, there is structure but you still can take creative liberty. My favorite thing I have created this year so far would have to be the 2 hands! We were able to make a drawing with 2 hands interacting in any way that we wanted to. I really enjoyed making the flower and really making it come to life. I'm looking forward to letting my creativity shine all year in this class and learning new ways to get better.
My October Reflection
I developed skills while exploring watercolor. Specifically ,I improved on my ability to paint with watercolor and how to draw a face. I expanded my global awareness of art by learning about all the different designs you can create as was shown in the cross contour pumpkin. I created original art by the cross contour pumpkin because I could create original designs. I really enjoyed all the projects we did. The water color was difficult at first but I was determined to get it right. The face was pretty difficult but I think it was also my favorite. I enjoy shading and drawing so I was really excited when Mrs.haggerty said we were doing this . I'm excited for what the next projects are I love this class.
November reflection
This month I really expanded my artistic ability. I experimented with pottery and clay making which was a very difficult project. We made a bowl and a mug and there were many steps to the process but it was a great experience. I have never worked with clay before but I would definitely do it again. We also experimented with color pencils and shading. We created a picture of something that we liked and made it come to life with the magic of colored pencils. It was very cool to see how much you could do with colored pencils and how real it can make a drawing look. For the fall season we made hand turkeys! We traced our hands and put our own creative touch on our turkey. Everyone had a different idea and they all came out great. Overall I liked what we did this month and I learned a lot of new skills like how to make pottery and how to use colored pencils. I can't wait to see what comes next month.
December reflection
This month I have worked with soft pastels and acrylic painting. The acrylic painting was fun because we got to make our own disco balls. We painted a circle white and then added any fun colors our hearts desired. We had to work with shadowing to make it look like there was light on the disco ball. We did both sides of the circle so when it was time to hang them up it would look like a real disco ball. Using the soft pastels was a little challenging. But I had fun experimenting and shading the colors together. The soft pastels were definitely a fun way to make art but a little messy. But still fun. This month in art I really feel like I let my artistic ideas come to life. I kind of went with whatever I was doing and trusted the process. Overall great month in art.
January/February
This month we worked with ink pens and perspective skill building. I have never worked with an ink pen before but I had a positive experience. It was a little annoying that we had to keep putting ink in our pen but we had other pens that just had ink already in them which was a plus. When using the ink pens I felt like someone in the 1950s which was cool to learn how they wrote back then. For our perspective, the piece was a city with a sun over the city. I learned a lot of little helpful details along the way. It was wicked cool seeing the building come to life. Overall I really enjoyed what we worked on this month.
March April
These past months we have been working really hard on our art work. Right now we are doing paper mache and making our favorite food out of it. I made spaghetti and meatballs for myself. It was really fun making the spaghetti. We made them out of toilet paper and water. In march we started crocheting. This was one of my favorites because I have never crochet anything and that was something I have been wanting to do. I made a peace sign and one struggle was the string would keep coming out of the needle so that was a little annoying but it was all worth it in the end. We also did a project with copper where we have to carve the copper pretty much. We got to draw cool designs on the copper. I have never heard of an art project so i thought it was very cool so see where it was going. Overall these past months were very fun in art class . I did things that I have always wanted to do. Art class is something i always look forward to and i learned a lot.
Final Reflection and Retrospective
I understand artistic behavior and I feel as though I had many opportunities to demonstrate artistic behavior. My favorite unit was doing the embroidering because I have been wanting to learn how to do it for a while but never did I also think that it was my most successful because I had the most fun while doing it and it came out good. I think I learned the most from the artist inspired piece because it was really hard to recreate a piece that a professional did. It was my hardest art project and my least favorite because of the way it turned out but I learned a lot on how artists go about their work. I am most proud of my watercolor painting. I thought it would be a lot harder than it was but it was hard at times because the colors would blend together but I think that's what made it good. I did not think i would execute the painting as well as I did so Im proud.
Feedback I would give is to give more time to people because I found myself rushing some of the time just to get it done. There's nothing that I would change. I loved all the art things that we did and I learned a lot about my artist ability. I would keep letting the students pick their own thing that wanted to do because none of the things that we all did looked the same everyone had their own little touch.
