Falcons Let One Slip Away

The Falcons turn the ball over on the two-point conversion after taking the lead, allowing the Chiefs to score and regain the lead and hold on for the win, 29-28.

The Falcons offense recorded 418 total yards on the day. That is the fifth time this season the offense has surpassed the 400-yard mark. The offense also went 6-for-10 on third down, converting 60% of their third downs, which is tied for the second highest third down conversion total on the season. The team also recorded 32 total first downs, which is the second most ever recorded in a game in franchise history.

WR Taylor Gabriel had five receptions for 44 yards.

QB Matt Ryan went 22-of-34 for 297 yards and one touchdown. Ryan kept his streak of having at least 200+ passing yards alive, moving it to 51 games. He also has now thrown a touchdown in 14 straight games.

WR Aldrick Robinson caught a five-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. He finished the game with two receptions for 18 yards.

RB Devonta Freeman became the first running back since Michael Turner (2010-11) to have at least 1,000 scrimmage yards in back-to-back seasons. Freeman also recorded rushing touchdowns number six and seven, for his nine total touchdowns on the season. This is his sixth multi-touchdown game of his career, and the second time in his career he’s had back-to-back multi touchdown games (2015: week three-four).

Freeman and Tevin Coleman teamed up for 154 total yards on the day, which is the sixth time the duo has clipped the 150-yard mark.

WR Julio Jones passed former Falcons receiver Terance Mathis and moved to second on the franchise’s all-time receiving yards list on the first play of the game. He now has 7,454 receiving yards for his career, and he finished the game with seven receptions for 113 yards. This is the seventh time this season he’s reached the 100-yard mark and the 35th time in his career he’s accomplished that feat.

The Falcons defense held the Chiefs to 30% on third down conversions, only allowing them to convert three of their 10 in to first downs. The team also moved its sack streak up to 11 games.

OLB Vic Beasley Jr. now has 10.5 sacks and five forced fumbles on the year. He’s the first Falcon with double-digit sacks since John Abraham (10 – 2012). Also, his five forced fumbles on the season are tied for the second most in franchise history DE Lester Archambeau (5 – 1998).

K Matt Bryant kicked a 59-yard field to end the first half. It’s his longest field goal made this season, and the second longest of his career. That field goal also tied the franchise record for the longest made field goal. Bryant has 118 points on the season, which leads the NFL.
