OPAL

We are over halfway through our first year of our exciting project to make our play times even better, in conjunction with OPAL (http://outdoorplayandlearning.org.uk/).

OPAL has won the Best Active Schools’ Programme in Europe award and has been cited in two Parliamentary Reports as “outstanding practice”. OPAL is working closely with Sport England to promote more active childhoods.

The buzz of activity OPAL brings has led to happier and more inclusive play at Monkton Park.

Our playtimes have undergone a huge change since the autumn, with bikes and scooters whizzing round the track, tree-climbing, music, cardboard inventions, dens, delicious mud meals, sand play, rolling around on cable reels, pulling each other along in suitcases, experimenting with the many uses of tyres, sailing expeditions in our blue boat and so much more. Playtimes are much freer and there is something for everyone.

Take a look at what we’ve been up to in the video.

To continue facilitating our OPAL project, we are in need of new resources and loose parts. Loose parts are any materials that can be easily moved, combined and incorporated into children's free play. The items we are looking for are detailed on the Trash to Treasure poster attached. We would be very grateful for any donations in order to keep developing our playtimes.

Keep an eye out for OPAL updates on the website and on our Twitter @MonktonParkPlay.

All Active

We all really enjoyed our time at Abbeyfield, making smoothies, trampolining, and playing short-golf. We are grateful for all the support we were provided with on the day. Abbeyfield is a great school with great activities. We would just like to say thank you to Abbeyfield and the teachers that helped us on the day. But we would like to also say a huge thank you to Mrs Douglas for organising our trip.

Talent Team

We loved the morning at Hardenhuish. Everything was so fun, exciting, and especially challenging. Each and everything we did was either testing our abilities or improving our skills. We liked everything there but in particular bouldering. Whenever we succeeded or improved, they would make the challenge harder to achieve whilst still keeping the fun. Overall everything was just amazing and the leaders were so kind to everyone.

FOMPS

FOMPS plan to hold a plant stall at the Monkfest Summer Fayre scheduled for Saturday the 25th of June. If anyone is planting seeds and would like to grow some extra to donate to the plant stall, it would be appreciated.

If you would like to build and display a Scarecrow for this year’s Royal Theme, the closing date for entries is the end of April. Please email Monktonparkscarecrow@outlook.com with your details.

We are still seeking volunteers for events on the sub committees and on the day of the events. Please come forward if you can help with the Scarecrow Trail or Monkfest. We need your help to keep these events running and raising money for the school. The current focus is the Bungalow.

Thanks
