Aldavilla Primary School Together We Learn and Achieve

Principal's Message

ACARA has released its MySchool data on Wednesday 22 February and we were highlighted in the top ranking schools across the Mid North Coast and were the top ranked school in the Macleay. The data takes into consideration our ICSEA value. ICSEA is a scale which allows for fair and reasonable comparisons among schools with similar students. ICSEA stands for the Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage. We are very proud of the hard work students and teachers do every day at Aldavilla PS.

I would also like to acknowledge the achievements of our students representing across multiple sporting events this term. Mason S, Riley F and Cameron S are representing APS at North Coast Swimming. Our Rugby team is progressing to the next level after a thrilling competition in Port Macquarie.

NAPLAN will commence this week. Please ensure your children are well rested and have a good breakfast so they are well prepared and can reach their potential. This year will be the second year of online testing.

Harmony Day -Living in Harmony - Tuesday 21 March

" Orange Outfit" - Gold Coin donation

Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In schools we celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional custodians of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world.

Aldavilla PS students are welcome to wear their Orange Outfits and make a gold coin donation to support the Kitchen Garden program.

The ongoing theme of Harmony Week is ‘everyone belongs’ and is a time of cultural respect for all. By participating in Harmony Week activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it.

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

The Big Vegie Crunch

Our school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch (part of Vegetable Week) at 11am on Thursday 30 March when students will share a plethora of fresh vegetables.

Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables: 50,260 students crunching simultaneously (2018 record); 14,991 students crunching at other times over Vegetable Week (2019 record).

Remember to keep serving up vegetables at home and in your children’s NUDE FOOD lunchboxes. Need some ideas? Try these delicious veges and check out the UP THE VEG at Home resource:

· carrot, celery, cucumber – cut into sticks or left whole;

· capsicum – cut into sticks or wedges

· corn – raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn cob

· broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch

· tomatoes – small cherry tomatoes or a large tomato that can be eaten like an apple

· beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch
