El cucuy Mary Contreras Period 2

El cucuy is an old legend passed through generations in Mexican culture by mouth, from mother to child. The story scares kids into behaving well. Many think of it as The Mexican Boogeyman.

El cucuy is a small, hideous creature known for kidnapping and devouring disobedient children leaving no trace behind.

Children are told that El cucuy takes the figure of any dark shadow and hides in your closet or under your bed. He watches you silently and waits for the right time to attack.

El cucuy is essentially thought of as a representation of the opposite of a guardian angel and frequently being compared to the devil.

The old legend teaches children to behave and respect their parents. It shows them that they should be grateful for the life they have and not throw fits.
