1. Get Personal
Grandma's farm, the place you had your first date, your own home, your high school.... nothing is better than a location with a personal connection to help tell your story. Don't think your house is photo-worthy? You might be surprised! It doesn't take a massive backyard with rolling hills or full forest for us to create something really beautiful for you. A favorite tree, the front porch, an old shed, etc can all offer a unique setting that helps make your session unlike anyone else's.
We'll help you decide if your location will give you everything you want and help determine the best time of day for ideal lighting to get the most out of your personal locations.
2. Choose A Style
How would you describe your personal style? Modern, edgy, trendy, bright, bold.... your personal style can help steer your toward a type of location that fits you best. Do you decorate with soft sandy neutrals and gravitate toward cool teal/blue accents... let's go beachy! Do you like earthy boho trends... let's go WILD nature. Do you love a classic lacy or a good floral maxi... let's go pretty nature. Do a good pair of boots and a leather jacket set your soul on fire... it's urban for you!
We can get GORGEOUS images (and a variety of them) at any style location but the style can set the stage for the feel of your images. Let us help you choose the style that best fits your personality. Don't worry, you don't have to pick just one... we can work with more than one style to help show off all sides of you.
3. Season Matters!
While many locations are fantastic year-round the exact look may vary even from spring (bright flowers) to summer (deep lush greens). A field that might be full of wildflowers in early May could be a beautiful golden 'wheat' look come November. Going urban? Consider the ivy... this can be a wall of deep greens through August before burning into a literal wall of fall golds and reds in late September.
Great year-round locations may feature evergreen trees, bodies of water, urban textures, etc. Not sure which season is most YOU? Let's chat about your style and we can help you select.
4. Adventurous?
Believe it or not there are WONDERFUL locations right in our backyard here in central IL. As I mentioned above, they might literally be in YOUR backyard, but we're all about taking things to the next level. Want a senior experience in the mountains... how about on the beach? The streets of New York? Yes! We're all about that, too.
We offer destination sessions all over the US with the option for travel credits to make a session in LA the same cost as a session right here. These sessions, obviously, take a bit more time to plan so be sure to get in touch EARLY if we're planning an epic destination session experience for you.
5. Trust us.
Overwhelmed? Unsure? Want all the locations in all the seasons? Haha, we know the feeling! Endless options make creating a session that's perfect for YOU a blast, but it can also be overwhelming. We absolutely encourage you to help design your session (after all, who knows you better than you?), but we're here to help. At your consultation, we'll chat through all these details and more to help you select the seasons, locations, and even your wardrobe to make the session everything you've dreamt about it being.
We can even help determine the best time of day to fit a particular location (LIGHT makes a world of difference so even the prettiest locations can be spoiled by poor choice of day/time).
