Stow and steady wins the race How the highly anticipated surgery is the perfect fit in Stow-on-the-Wold

Built in the beautiful market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, patients and staff at Stow surgery waited patiently for their perfect building.

The surgery was built on Maugersbury Road and brought fresh, modern, spacious facilities to the town. With seven GP consulting rooms, four nurse consulting rooms, two phlebotomy rooms, an area for minor procedures and a further two consulting rooms specifically for trainee GPs the building has ensured that the practice can continue to grow it's facilities for patients.

The development, which was built from Cotswold stone to blend perfectly into its surroundings.

The new building was designed with people who have disabilities and dementia in mind, with signage and access ensuring the area is easy to navigate.

The building gave staff a better working environment and included a large waiting room, bigger staff room and a conference room.

The environmentally friendly building has been constructed with structural insulated panels (SIPs), a ground source heat pump and an array of solar panels, all of which reduce energy consumption.

This is a fabulous development for Stow-on-the-Wold, providing modern facilities where patients can be diagnosed and treated safely and effectively for many years to come

Helen Goodey, Director of Primary Care at NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.

The building was opened by Countryfile presenter, Adam Henson, followed by mince pies, mulled wine and carols around their Christmas tree. Patients had an opportunity to tour the building.

It’s been fantastic to show off our new surgery and celebrate the hard work it’s taken to create this outstanding building in such a festive way. We can’t wait to see the impact the new environment makes to staff and patients.
