Silfen, Multi & Larry Ellis Meets Recap!

The Mammoths competed at three different meets on the weekend of April 15th and 16th! The multi athletes competed at the Williams Invitational, hosted by Williams College on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th, Sophie Wolmer and Sidnie Kulik ran the 5k at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Friday April 15th, and the majority of the team competed at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th. It was a busy and fun weekend for the Mammoths!

Multi athletes Trintje Nydam, Annelise Romero, Max Spelke and Jack Trent competed at the Williams Invitational to compete in the heptathlon for Trintje and Annelise and the decathlon for Max and Jack.

The first day of the heptathlon consists of the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meter dash. Trintje set a personal best in the 100 Hurdles and 200 on the first day of competition! The second day of the heptathlon consists of the long jump, javelin and 800, and Trintje set personal bests in the javelin and 800 and Annelise won the javelin! At the conclusion of the two day competition, Trintje placed second with a personal best score of 3,648 points and Annelise placed third with a score of 3,551 points, qualifying them both for the Division III New England Championships!

The first day of the decathlon consists of the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meter dash. Both Jack and Max ran their first 100 of college and both competed well and Jack won the 400 in his first open 400 race ever! The second day of the decathlon consists of the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meter run. Max set personal bests in the 110 hurdles and javelin and ran well in the 1500 in his first 1500 ever! Jack set a personal best in the discus and ran a great 1500 in his first 1500 ever as well! At the conclusion of the two-day competition, Jack placed second with a score of 6,055 points and Max placed third with a score of 4,977 points, qualifying them both for the Division III New England Championships!

Over at the Silfen Invitational, the first night of competition on Friday night was mainly elite mid-distance and distance races, as well as a few field events.

The first race for the Mammoths was the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, where Mary Kate placed second in a deep and competitive field, running a personal best time of 11:22! Claire Callon ran well in her second steeplechase race, finishing in eighth place in a time of 11:58!

The next race on the track was the men's 800, which had four heats. Running out of the second fastest seeded heat, Wilson won his heat and the 800 overall with the fastest time of 1:54, a personal best by a full second! In the third fastest heat, Jack O'Hara used a great move in the last 200 meters to win his heat in a time of 1:56, a personal best! Also in the third section, Braedon Fiume competed hard and ran a time of 1:58. In the fastest section, Kolya Markov-Riss competed well in the deep field and placed sixth in his heat in a season best time of 1:56! In the women's 800, Ava Zielinski ran well in the fastest section and ran a time of 2:19! Margo Pedersen and Nicole Barbaro both competed well, running times of 2:22 and 2:26, respectively.

In the men's 1500, Nick Edwards-Levin and Will Merhige both competed well in the fastest section of the 1500, placing seventh and eighth, respectively, where they both ran times of 4:02! Will set a personal best and Nick ran a great race in his first 1500 ever! In the second-fastest section, Aydin Williams ran well in the tight race, placing sixth in a time of 4:08, Ian Dopp ran a season-best time of 4:12 and Gent Malushaga ran hard. In the women's 1500, Julia Schor went out hard and held off some hard-charging competitors in the final 100 meters, running a personal best time of 4:41 to finish third! In the same heat, Sylvan Wold ran a great race, running a personal best time of 4:51! In the second-fastest section, Ally Deegan put herself in a great position throughout the race and finished second in her heat in a season-best time of 4:51 in a great race!

Next up was the 5k and Keon Mazdisnian enjoyed a fantastic race, cracking the 15-minute barrier for the first time, running a personal best time of 14:57, a personal best by 15 seconds! Ajay Sarathy and Theo Dassin both ran hard in the deep field, running times of 15:12 and 15:30, respectively. In the women's 5k, Eline Laurent enjoyed a great race, running a personal best time of 18:40!

The final event on the track for the Mammoths was the men's 10k where Daniel Martin and Luke Munch both ran their first 10k ever! Spencer Davis and Luke Munch ran well together, finishing in times of 32:45 and 32:47, respectively! Daniel Martin ran a time of 33:55, running hard in the competitive field.

A few field events were contested on Friday night at the Silfen Invitational, and Eve Giancarlo, Jordan Hecker and Mia Bawendi all tied for seventh place by clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2")! Payton Sorensen cleared 2.95 meters (9' 8") and Bridget Cassata set a personal best, clearing 2.80 meters (9' 2.25")!

In the women's discus, Bethany Martin threw 31.89 meters (104' 7") on her first throw for her best throw of the day and Debra Thayer threw 30.99 meters (101' 8")!

In the men's javelin, Kevin Ryu threw 46.19 meters (151' 6") and Jack Renda threw 38.08 meters (124' 11"). In the men's long jump, Chris Gong jumped 6.71 meters (22' 0.25") to place third, Adrian Friedman jumped 6.26 meters (20' 6.5") and Kelechi Eziri jumped 6.07 meters (19' 11").

Sophie Wolmer and Sidnie Kulik travelled down to Princeton University to compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday April 15th, where they were the only Division 3 competitors in the field.

Sophie Wolmer stuck with the lead pack and ran a hard last mile, coming across the finish line in a time of 16:50, a personal best by 15 seconds! With her time, Sophie is now 3rd All-Time at Amherst in the 5k! Sidnie Kulik competed well in the field and moved up throughout the race, crossing the finish line in a time of 17:19.

On Saturday in the triple jump, Kelechi Eziri took advantage of a windy day and jumped 14.40 meters (47' 3")! With the wind reading of 3.1 meters per second during his jump, his jump does not count for record setting purposes but does count for qualifying for Nationals, where he is ranked ninth nationally! Gabe Dos Santos jumped well too, jumping 12.63 meters (41' 5.25"). In the women's triple jump, Muffie Mazambani jumped 11.11 meters (36' 5.5") to place sixth and Anaya Thomas jumped 10.25 meters (33' 7.5").

In the women's long jump, Eliza Cardwell placed second with a jump of 5.44 meters (17' 10.25")! Muffie placed sixth with a jump of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5"), Sam Tichelaar placed ninth with a jump of 5.14 meters (16' 10.5") and Julia Zacher jumped 4.64 meters (15' 2.75").

The first event on the track on Saturday at the Silfen Invitational was the men's 4x100 relay, where the team of Ben Bell, Henry Buren, Matt Gelin and Theo Woodward placed fifth in a time of 43.86 seconds. The women's 4x100 relay of Mia Bawendi, Sam Tichelaar, Muffie Mazambani and Amerley Lokko ran a season best time of 49.72 seconds! Maggie Drew competed in the 1500 and ran a nice race, finishing in a time of 5:19.

In the 110 Hurdles, Alton Machen ran a great race in only his second race going over 42" hurdles, running a personal best time of 15.86 seconds to place fourth! In the 100 Hurdles, Eliza Cardwell placed third in a strong field in a time of 15.02 seconds! Anaya Thomas placed tenth in a time of 16.33 seconds and Bridget Cassata placed twelfth in a season best time of 16.59 seconds! Julia Zacher competed well and ran a time of 17.96 seconds.

Henry Buren won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.63 seconds! His heat had a wind reading of 2.9 meters per second which doesn't count for record setting purposes, but it does count for national rankings, where he is ranked 15th nationally in the event! Ben Bell ran well in the 100 too, running a time of 11.29 seconds and Matt Gelin set a personal best with his time of 11.42 seconds! Marshall Richardson ran well, finishing with a time of 12.00 seconds. Mia Bawendi enjoyed a great race, finishing in a time of 13.04 seconds!

Gabe Dos Santos tied his personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") to finish second! Alex Robin also competed in the high jump, where he cleared 1.75 meters (5' 8.75"). Julia Zacher placed second in the women's high jump, clearing 1.62 meters (5' 3.75").

Alex Robin finished third in the pole vault, clearing 4.00 meters (13' 1.5")!

Next on the track was the 400 meter dash and Anna Madden finished second in a time of 58.74 seconds! Juanita Jaramillo ran great too, finishing fourth in a time of 59.28 seconds! Running her first open 400 ever, Julia Schor stepped down in distance and ran a time of 61.12 seconds! Kolya Markov-Riss also stepped down in distance and ran a time of 51.22 seconds and Zane Lee-Briggs ran a season best time of 55.90 seconds!

In the men's 800, Charlie Clary won his heat by nearly four full seconds in his first open 800 of college, finishing in a great time of 1:58! Bobby Innes-Gold placed second in his heat, running a personal best time of 1:59! In a different heat, Ian Dopp placed second and ran his best 800 of college, running a time of 2:01! Competing all the way to the finish line, Susannah Auderset ran a time of 2:40 in the women's 800.

Ellis Phillips-Gallucci won the 400 hurdles in his season opening race, winning in a time of 56.08 seconds! Alton Machen ran great in his first 400 hurdles race of the season, placing fourth in a time of 57.76 seconds! Thomas Ye competed well and placed seventh in a time of 59.66 seconds.

Eliza Cardwell won the 400 hurdles in a season best time of 64.62 seconds, gritting out the victory in tough conditions and a strong field! Ava Tillman placed fifth, running a time of 67.82 seconds and Artis Phillips placed seventh, running a time of 68.69 seconds!

Over in the throwing circle, Bethany Martin placed eleventh in the hammer throw with a throw of 37.60 meters (123' 4") and Debra Thayer threw 31.05 meters (101' 10"). Jack Renda threw a personal best in the hammer, throwing 36.97 meters (121' 3")!

David Brown threw 13.67 meters (44' 10.25") in the shot put, placing fifth! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi set a personal best in the shot put, throwing 12.60 meters (41' 4.25")! In the women's shot put, Bethany Martin threw 9.19 meters (30' 2").

David Brown placed fifth in the discus, throwing 40.44 meters (132' 8") and Jack Renda set a personal best with a throw of 34.68 meters (113' 9")! Hugh threw a mark of 33.91 meters (111' 3"), Max Hoffman set a personal best, throwing 32.92 meters (108' 0") and Maurice Leon threw a mark of 30.73 meters (100' 10").

Carolina Andrade placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 31.86 meters (104' 6") and Bethany Martin threw a mark of 21.16 meters (69' 5").

Running his third event of the day, Henry Buren placed third in the 200 in a time of 22.06 seconds! Matt Gelin continued to drop his time in the 200, finishing in a time of 23.12 seconds. Sam Tichelaar ran a great race in the 200, placing seventh in a time of 26.13 seconds! Isabelle Lobo and Bridget Cassata both ran well, running times of 28.13 and 28.31 seconds, respectively.

Nora Bannon ran her first 5k ever on the track and clicked off consistent splits and closed hard, running a time of 19:52!

The women's 4x400 relay of Ava Zielinski, Sylvan Wold, Margo Pedersen and Julia Schor placed second, running a time of 4:10! In the last event of the day, the men's 4x800 relay of Gent Malushaga, Nick Edwards-Levin, Braedon Fiume and Wilson Spurrell won in a time of 8:03, winning by 12 seconds!
