It has been a wonderful week in school. The children have started to see the signs of Spring and the sun has played it part in bringing extra cheer and joy this week. We welcomed some large Lego Style blocks to the playground this week as we continue to expand the play provision at Lunch time and Play times, Accelerated Reader is up and running and there are some amazing maths skills being used in arithmetic sessions. We are looking forward to welcoming you into school in the last week of term, as well as updating you on progress through the end of term update report and Parents' evening.
Covid is still with us as well. There have been quite a few cases over the past few days, mixed in with sickness. We continue to be vigilant in school and have Teams set up for those at home who are well enough to take part. Please do let us know if there is anything we can help with if you are having to isolate.
This week in our Smart Council discussion, after our value assembly, we posed this question:
And this is how we voted:
So next week we will be putting this into action and creating some new areas and spaces, as well as looking at the whole school environment to continue to support all children in school. The children are really having their voice heard and are being empowered to make changes in school. They are amazing young people!
School life
This week Reception have been learning about frogs and the children have been really interested in the frogspawn we have in class. We talked about frogs been amphibians. Please ask your child if they can tell you what it means. We have also been planting onion sets. The children started learning a new story The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
The children in nursery have been doing their phonics outside this week and reading simple words. This week the children celebrated World Earth Day in nursery. They learned how to compost their peelings from the fruit they eat at snack time. The children know how important recycling is and were amazed to discover that worms turn peelings into a type of soil known as compost. The children have decided to keep their peelings each week to feed the worms!
Accelerated reader
We are starting to match children with their first books using Accelerated Reader. The children are doing well to get used to a new style of quizzing linked to the stories and texts that they are reading, over the next few weeks they will continue grow in confidence in the question types and will be reading more and more books. I look forward to seeing the books children are reading and buying more 'new release' books for the library for the children to continue reading for pleasure.
