Shirenewton Primary School Curriculum Summary

All staff, alongside our Pupil Leadership Team, have developed our own Four Purposes that are accessible and understandable to all learners. We ensure all teaching and learning embodies the Four Purposes and we reflect on this with the children.

Our School Vision & Values

Learning Together... we aim to develop into creative and enterprising individuals who, through a wealth of exciting experiences and challenges in a vibrant learning environment, develop into respectful and inquisitive learners who care about the local community, Wales and the wider world.

Achieving for Life... we aim to become happy and confident, well rounded individuals who have a life-long love of learning, realising our true potential.

We will do this whilst showing our school values...

OUR CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

We have developed our Curriculum Overview that was made collaboratively with a range of stakeholders. Through consultation with parents, pupils and governors, the staff worked together to develop a set of non-negotiables for all learners as they go through their journey at Shirenewton. This includes over-arching concepts and experiences that they will all encounter as they move through our school.

Areas of learning & Experiences

Teaching and learning is organised and taught within and across Areas of Learning and Experiences (AoLEs). We ensure the children experience a broad and balanced curriculum with access to a wealth of disciplines.

Cross curricular responsibilities

Literacy, numeracy and digital competence is embedded practice across our curriculum. Opportunities to practice and apply these skills is evident across all AoLEs

Cross cutting Themes

Our curriculum allows opportunities for learning and considering the cross cutting themes, as detailed above.

Teaching & Learning

These are just some of the pedagogical approaches we use in school. It is vital for the children to be exposed to a broad range of approaches and for staff to understand which teaching strategies will best support learning in a given context. Often our staff enquiry projects are linked to an aspect of teaching and learning and this will be used to inform development of an approach as well as professional learning.
The purpose of assessment is to support the progression of each individual learner. It is important to incorporate a range of assessment approaches which support learner progression. As much assessment as possible is carried out with the children, in order for them to make the best progress and for us to know what they need to learn next. We use many different strategies, with those above being just a few.
We are continually developing our indoor and outdoor learning environments to ensure they are purposeful for our learners.

On-going review...

Our curriculum is constantly evolving and under regular review. Our Summary will be amended and developed as our curriculum does, responding to feedback and reviews carried out by pupils, parents, staff, governors and other stakeholders.
