Things Worth Fighting For in society and personal life

Here are a few things I think we should fight for in our society

#1: Education for all

In my opinion, free education is one of the most important things to fight for. Education means the right, and ability, to acquire knowledge to use for greater world purposes. Education is the key for society. With an education not only are there more jobs to fill society, but the people of society will be more open minded. A more open minded society will lead to less segregation, injustice, inequality, etc. For many people, education is all they have. It's the only way that they will ever be able to leave their poor neighborhood and help their family financially. Education gives many doors and opportunities for people all over the world. Unfortunately, in places where there is free education, such as the United States, children take it for granted.

#2: Freedom of beliefs

In society you should be able to fight for what you believe in, whether it's religious or just personal thought. Two examples that can support this are the Civil War, and the Crusades. The basis of the Civil War was based off of society's different beliefs on slavery, some supported it, others deeply opposed it. Either way society fought against each other over the idea that you can own people as personal property. Now, the basis of the Crusades was religious. Two different religions clashed over religious beliefs on who should have a certain territory. I think you should be able to fight for what you believe in because not everyone has the same beliefs and this is due to how they were raised and what type of environment they grew up in.

#3: Equality

As a society I think we should fight for equality for all people. One of the biggest and most famous examples of this could be the Civil Rights Movement in the ‘60’s. All across the country people fought for the rights of African Americans and end the segregation against them. A recent example could be the transgender laws that were enforced in North Carolina. Many people are criticizing and even suing the state for discrimination against the transgender population. Overall, as a society we need to see everyone as who they are. There shouldn't be black, white, gay, straight, transgender, homosexual, etc. Every person is born the same way with the same inalienable rights as those before them. Also, equality can unite the country as one which can benefit us in every aspect. Economically, there would be a smaller gap in social classes. Politically, people would make smarter decisions on who to vote for in office, and not for people like Trump. Socially, diversity would run our country. Races and different ethnicities stay together in communities because of racist and prejudiced stereotypes.

Here are a few personal things I would fight for

#1: Family

In my opinion, family is the most important thing to fight for. Your family is your blood, your past and your future. Your family will always have your back and defend you, through thick or thin. Also, family represents your ancestry and culture, and it gives you a sense of pride in how you were raised with certain beliefs and traditions. Families form your ideals and influence you. They are what you become and that's why you love them.

#2: Freedom of speech

Everyone is given a voice for a reason. Whether they use it for good or bad is up to them, but either way we all have the right to express ourselves verbally. The right to freedom of speech isn't just a right but it symbolizes democracy. In a totalitarian state only one person has the say, which is the ruler. Anyone who counters the leader or is even suspected of rebelling is usually punished severely or executed. You can think what you want, but you can't say what you want. The idea of a totalitarian state completely counters the idea of freedom of speech and denies people that right. Democracy allows people to exercise their speech and speak their opinion.

#3: Pursuit of happiness

Everyone should be able to pursue what makes them happy. This right is the basis of freedom. Thankfully in our country we have this right and can be whatever we want to be. However in some countries people are assigned jobs based off what their leaders want them to be or how they see their abilities. It completely discourages the people because they know they won't be entirely happy with what they're doing. Its as if you would want to become a doctor but instead your leader wants you to be a teacher. I think everyone should have the chance to pursue their dreams and in the end be happy.
