Walsh celebrates opening of second pedestrian bridge at LaGuardia Terminal B

NEW YORK, NY – Walsh Construction joined New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and LaGuardia Gateway Partners to celebrate the unveiling of the new western skybridge at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal B. The 482-foot-long pedestrian bridge stands 60 feet above ground and connects the terminal's Western Concourse to the Arrivals & Departures Hall.

Completion of the skybridge is the terminal redevelopment’s last major building milestone and makes LaGuardia Airport the world's only airport with two pedestrian bridges. The Eastern Concourse Pedestrian Bridge opened in June 2021 and is approximately 420 feet long and elevated 65 feet above the ground.

Walsh Construction completes NASA Research Support Building

Cleveland, OH – Walsh Construction has completed a new 60,000-square-foot Research Support Building at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. The multi-use Research Support Building is the second phase of NASA's Facility Master Plan to revitalize its central campus and renovate/replace World War II-era buildings. The new building will promote group collaboration, community gathering and innovation for approximately 160 employees, while offering state-of-the-art training and conference rooms, a cafeteria, “hoteling spaces” for employees on part-time telework, an exchange store and a credit union.

Walsh Construction assists Santa Monica in efforts to achieve water self-sufficiency

Santa Monica, CA - Walsh Construction and design-build partner Brown and Caldwell are set to expand the City of Santa Monica's Arcadia Water Treatment Plant and deliver restorations to the Olympic Well Field. A groundbreaking ceremony kicked-off these water infrastructure projects that are significant components of the City’s Sustainable Water Master Plan and goal of becoming water self-sufficient by 2023. Walsh Construction and Brown and Caldwell are utilizing a progressive design-build delivery method, and are responsible for the design, permitting, construction, final permitting, and commissioning of facility improvements.

Walsh Construction utilizes innovative gantry system for Mile Long Bridge

Willow Spring, IL - As crews begin to install massive bridge beams on the southbound portion of the I-294 Mile Long Bridge, they are employing an innovative gantry system to move and place beams in a tight space between two existing bridges and over the Sanitary and Ship Canal.

The gantry system runs on rails placed on the northbound and southbound bridge structures with three gantries to move and place the beams. The massive gantries are 28-feet-tall and 145-feet-wide, each with moveable crane and hoist that can lift and move up to 30 tons. Of the 165 steel beams that will be delivered to the project, 110 will be placed and installed using the gantries.

Two Walsh Group federal projects selected for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program

SEATTLE, WA - Two Walsh Group federal projects have been selected to continue their participation in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). The Regional Confinement Facility and Information Systems Facility projects at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington have been named Star Worksites, the highest level of VPP participation.

The Voluntary Protection Program recognizes employers and workers in the private industry and federal agencies who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates. The Star program is designed for sites whose safety and health management systems operate in a highly effective, self-sufficient manner and meet all VPP requirements.

$2.1 billion Crenshaw-LAX Light Rail project is near completion

Los Angeles, CA - The Walsh Construction joint venture is in the final phases of testing and finishing out the work and improvements on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project. The project has reached 99.5% completion and crews are finishing work at all stations, with an emphasis on safety, systems and train testing. The 8.5-mile project will feature eight new stations and pass through Leimert Park, Hyde Park and downtown Inglewood. The rail line will also pass through the Crenshaw District, which is undergoing a $100 million revitalization. A 1.3-mile stretch of the neighborhood in South Los Angeles is transforming into a hub to celebrate black businesses, arts and culture, and the new rail line will provide a direct connection for visitors. The anticipated opening of the rail line is late summer 2022.

Archer Western helps City of Goodyear add the Colorado River to its Water Supply

Goodyear, AZ - Archer Western worked with Jacobs on this Water Pump Station and Water Treatment Facility that is helping to expand the water supply in Goodyear, Arizona. Goodyear has mainly depended on groundwater for its residents, but now, millions of gallons of Colorado River water make up part of the city's water portfolio. It all flows through Goodyear's Surface Water Treatment Facility, which benefits 60,000 customers in the area.

Walsh tops out the concrete core of Salesforce Tower Chicago

Chicago, IL - The concrete core of Salesforce Tower Chicago is now topped out. The core stands approximately 840-feet-high, and the structural steel is climbing right behind it.

Core of the new Inpatient Hospital becomes tallest structure on Ohio State's campus

Columbus, OH - A historic concrete pour was recently performed at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital project. The building's North Core elevation stands at 307 feet above ground level, making it (currently) the tallest structure on The Ohio State University campus, overtaking its neighbor, The James Cancer Hospital. However, this feat will soon be outdone by the Center Core when it climbs to its maximum elevation of 407 feet above grade. The North and South cores will both max-out at 362 feet.

Walsh begins work on Long Beach Airport Taxiway Improvement Project

Long Beach, CA - Walsh Construction has begun a major taxiway reconstruction project at Long Beach Airport. This project includes replacing the existing pavement on Taxiway L, the primary taxiway for all departing commercial aircraft. The exiting asphalt pavement has reached the end of its useful life, and the new concrete pavement is designed to last 40 years. In a move to make the new taxiway more environmentally sustainable, crews will reuse the asphalt millings from the demolition of the existing runway as a base material for the new pavement section, according to the airport.
