Falconer's Hill Academy Our children, their future, our responsibility

Principal's Message

Thank you to the PTA, parents, staff and children who made the Christmas Fayre a success. There was a great turn out and there was a great deal of fun to be had. We look forward to sharing how much you have contributed to support the children of FHA. This year the PTA have been raising funds to contribute to the costs of our educational visits. All year groups have at least 1 major educational visit this year e.g. The Space Centre, Living Rainforest, Twycross or the seaside.

The costs of visits have risen this year whilst voluntary contributions have dropped as everyone is feeling the pinch. Educational visits are important embedding the learning of our pupils. The school subsidises visits to keep the costs down and with the additional support from the PTA we hope to continue to broaden the horizons of your children.

Finally, we are planning special trips this year. 60 children mixed from years 3-6 will get a chance to go to visit a major national museum or palace. We have booked visits to The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and Hampton Court Palace.

The PTA have worked tirelessly to support all our pupils and I think we can give them a great big thank you. The PTA will end this December and we will be relaunching in the next academic year of Friends of FHA.

Learning Round-up

Maple & Silver Birch - It’s been another busy week in year 3, we have been busy writing our Amber write. In maths we have continued to learn addition and subtraction looking at making the next hundred and the previous hundred. In geography we looked at locating the Yellow River on the map and different types of flooding. We also had a visitor from Northampton town football for a football takeover tournament.

Elder class have worked amazingly this week, we enjoyed finding out about how the ear works, thought about the most significant part of the nativity to Christian’s and debated if senators in Ancient Rome were right to assassinate Caesar! The children also enjoyed the football tournament run by Northampton Town Football Club in honour of The World Cup. Keep working hard Elder, you’ve really persevered this week despite battling coughs and colds!

Pine class have done some amazing work this week despite the colder weather and the fact a lot of us seem to be battling colds! We had an exciting visit from the Life Education bus and a great time doing football with the Northampton Town Football Club on Thursday. In History we turned our classroom into a court to decide whether the senators in Ancient Rome were right to assassinate Caesar, taking on different roles in the proceedings. We have also started to look forward to Christmas by writing some instructions for how to decorate a Christmas tree as our instructional text Cold Write.

Sequoia class have been working extremely hard this week, especially in maths where they have been tackling some tricky fractions questions and enjoying some equivalent fractions quizzes on the chromebooks. We have also started considering arguments for and against keeping wild animals in schools to present a balanced discursive text in Talk for Writing. We have also had some exciting visitors this week with a visit from the Life Education Bus, the Reverend Dawn and a Northampton Town Football Club takeover tournament!

Willow class have been working extremely hard this week, in all areas of the curriculum particularly working hard on learning about fractions of ¼ and ⅓ We have also been working on hard on creating balanced arguments on whether we could keep a secret species of animal on our school grounds! We have also had some exciting visitors this week with a visit from the Life Education Bus, the Reverend Dawn and a Northampton Town Football Club takeover tournament! It has been such a fun packed week for us all!

Oak class have learnt about difference types of simple machines including pulleys and gears and how these can change the force needed to push or pull an object. In our History lessons, they have also learnt about our local area and what impact Northamptonshire had during WW2 in the migration of children. They also particularly enjoyed our Year 5 and Year 6 Football Tournament on Thursday in partnership with Northampton Town Football Club.

Acer class have enjoyed their session with the Life Education Bus this week. During the session, they discussed scenarios and what they would do. Acer have been working very hard on fractions this week. They have been learning how to find equivalent fractions and how to convert between improper and mixed number fractions. Keep up the great work Acer.
