WORLD BOOK DAY

We have had a fantastic day in school today for World Book Day. All of the children have enjoyed lots of book-related fun and sharing stories together.

It has been fantastic to see all of the 'books in boxes' that the children have created. So much creativity, care and hard work on display; huge well done to everyone. The project has clearly really sparked the children's imagination, with books being brought to life in so many different ways.

Below is just a snapshot of the day. More photos can be found on our Twitter feed.

World Book Day fun - we love books!

Huge congratulations to Mason in Year 5 who has made it into the global top 100 on Times Tables Rockstars! TTRS is used by over 16,000 schools around the world, both primary and secondary, so this really is an impressive achievement. Well done Mason! Can we have any more world beaters from Parkside? COMIC RELIEF FRI 18TH MARCH

We will be joining in with Red Nose Day on Friday 18th March. With this year's theme being 'funny is power', the School Council have planned a non-uniform/crazy hair day. They are also organising fun activities to take place on the day.

Voluntary donations can be made in aid of Comic Relief via a dedicated charity page on ParentPay - we will share this with you in due course. Please do not bring cash into school.

ROAD SAFETY

For everyone's safety when arriving at and leaving school, please do not park or drop off on the yellow lines.

We also continue to encourage everyone to use the zebra crossing as the safest way to cross Western Road. Please can all of the adults set a good example by using it themselves, and remind older children who walk to school unaccompanied to do the same. Thank you.

HARRY POTTER WANDS DISPLAY

It's clear from the number of Harry Potter costumes and book boxes in school today that there are lots of fans at Parkside, so we just thought we would let you know about the giant wands on display in Hull at the moment - one of just four places chosen in the country. Situated outside the City Hall, they will only be there until Tuesday 8th March before they move onto their next location. They light up from 6.30pm, with a lights and music display every half an hour.

NO NUTS PLEASE

Please can we remind all parents and carers that no nuts or nut products should be brought into school. We have a number of people within our school community with very severe, life-threatening nut allergies. Please keep this in mind when making snacks or packed lunches.

Do not send in any nuts or cereal bars/snack bars containing nuts, or use peanut butter or Nutella (or similar products). Please check packaging for ingredients if you are unsure - allergens will be listed in bold. Thank you for your support in keeping others safe.

You will be given a unique reference number that will enable to order your photos online on the Tempest website.

CURRENT COVID GUIDANCE

As we are all aware, COVID-19 is still circulating and causing severe illness for a minority of our population. We have a collective responsibility to work together to protect those most vulnerable whilst also protecting face-to face education for our children and young people. We are continuing to follow Local Authority advice and risk assessments at present. In school we will be:

  1. Ensuring good hygiene for everyone (hand hygiene & respiratory hygiene)
  2. Maintaining appropriate cleaning regimes
  3. Keeping occupied spaces well ventilated
  4. Following public health advice on testing, self-isolation and managing confirmed cases of COVID-19

Please note that the government has stopped the requirement for school staff to test twice weekly. Please click here for the updated guidance for parents and carers regarding schools and early years settings.

If you or your child have any of the three main symptoms (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) please book a PCR test. If you test positive for Covid-19 please follow the isolation guidance.

From 24 February 2022, the legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive test has been removed. However, both adults and children who test positive are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least 5 days. On the fifth and sixth day, if negative test results are returned, the individual can cease staying at home and return to normal activity (i.e., return to school). However, if they do not return negative test results on the 5th and 6th day, they should be strongly advised to continue to stay at home until they have returned 2 negative results. Regardless of test results, they can return to school on the 11th day.

There is no requirement for any close contacts outside of the household to be advised to stay at home.
