Iowa Western wins second national title in school history

Iowa Western defeated Salt Lake 1-0 to claim its second NJCAA DI Women's Soccer National title in school history! Iowa Western has played in five championship games in its 12 National Tournament appearances. The Reivers have emerged victorious in two of the championship games.

The Reivers and Bruins combined for a total of 26 shots in tonight's championship match. The single goal of the game was scored by Offensive MVP, Marta Llopis. Salt Lake's Defensive MVP, Theresa Wiesiolek, had four saves while Iowa Western's goalkeeper Bella Washington had five. Salt Lake only allowed two goals for the entire tournament.

With this win, Iowa Western earns its first National Championship title since 2013. The Reivers will end the season 19-3-1 with a perfect conference record of 6-0 and a perfect National Championship Tournament record of 4-0.

Pool Play Plots

Pool A was dominated by #1 Tyler, who shutout both #12 Motlow State and #8 Barton in two straight matches.
#7 Eastern Florida State took charge in Pool B. Eastern Florida shutout both #11 Laramie County and #2 Hill 4-0 in both games.
The Salt Lake Bruins defeated #3 Butler 3-1 and #6 Monroe CC 1-0 to take the lead in Pool C and earn their place in the semifinal match.
Iowa Western went 2-0 in pool play to secure their spot in the semifinals. The Reivers defeated #4 Polk State 2-1 and #5 Seminole State 3-1 to win Pool D.

National Tournament Seeding

Iowa Western defeated Illinois Central in the Central District Championship to claim its spot in the National Tournament. Iowa Western was then chosen as the #9 seed after a 14-3-1 season.
Salt Lake defeated Arizona Western in the West District Championship to claim its spot in the National Tournament. Salt Lake was then chosen as the #10 seed after an 11-3 season.

Best in the Field

Iowa Western's Hanna Schimmer was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 NJCAA DI Women's Soccer National Championship tournament.

Defensive MVP was awarded to Salt Lake's Goalkeeper, Theresa Wiesiolek.

The Offensive MVP of the National Tournament was earned by Iowa Western's Marta Llopis.
