Ancient Rome held numerolus festivals and celebrated holidays to honor the gods.As time went on festivals turned into customs for the Romans and for presents day people. The three major holidays the Romans celebrated were Lupercalia,Saturnalia ,and Consualia.
Lupercalia is a Roman holiday that was celebrated in February. Lupercalia was to honor the Venus God of love.Lupercalia is similar to the present holiday known as Valentine's Day. Venus son Cupid was known to go around spreading love to couples during the month of February. It was said to be lucky to be married during the month of Lupercalia.
Saturnalia is the second most important Roman holiday. Saturnalia was celebrated during the month of December.Romans exchanged gifts,life a Yule log,and decorated with evergreens during this holiday. This holiday was to honor the god Saturnalia,God of seed and growing. This holiday marked the end of autum and is commonly known as Christmas.

The third important holiday the Romans celebrated during the month of Augugt was Consuala . This holiday was to honor the god consus. Consus was the god of the counsel who protected the harvest . Once a year the ground that covered the stored harvest and the temple was removed in honor of consus. The god Mars was also celebrated during this holiday because he was a protected of the harvester as well .
The Romans celebrated many holidays through out the year . The holidays were celebrated to honor the gods and to show that they were thankful.Parts of Roman customs can still be seen today was n several of the holiday we celebrate each year. The holiday and festivals are just as important today as they were back in ancient roman. Holiday are in important part of our customs and traditions that we celebrate with our families.
