Rome, Italy - a fascinating city of rebirth and the ancient. A layered city on which civilizations ruled and fell, disappeared and rediscovered. The rise of greatness and then forgotten only to be reborn anew. The great Roman Forum once the center of the most advanced society in the world, became a trash dump for the next generations only to be rediscovered years later. The Colosseum in all it's awe inspiring stature is only a skeleton of it's former beauty. I hope to capture and convey some of the complexity of this amazing city in my photography. -- Edward M. Ancient Rome
“Rome – the city of visible history, where the past of a whole hemisphere seems moving in funeral procession with strange ancestral images and trophies gathered from afar.” -George Eliot, pen name of Mary Ann Evans, an English poet
The Pantheon is a building in Rome, Italy, on the site of an earlier building commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus. The present building was completed by the emperor Hadrian and probably dedicated about 126 AD.
Rome Details
The thing I love about Rome is that is has so many layers. In it, you can follow anything that interests you: town planning, architecture, churches or culture. It's a city rich in antiquity and early Christian treasures, and just endlessly fascinating. There's nowhere else like it. - Claire Tomalin
