For the past two winters, snow in Western Europe has been scarce. Baqueira Beret is located in the heart of the Pyrenees and almost always accumulates a decent base for skiing due to its westerly aspect of the north facing mountain range.
The weekend started out pretty bad with dense fog on Saturday and almost zero visibility, but on Sunday, the clouds and fog lifted for the most spectacular day imaginable.
Just in time for the Baqueira Beret Pro - Freeride World Tour (January 28 - February 2), the region received 50 cm of fresh powder. Despite the traffic jams and long lines at the lower chair lift, this exhilarating competition brought the crowds and did not disappoint.
Baqueira Beret has 161 kilometers (100 miles) of skiable pistes, supported by one gondola and 20 chair lifts, in addition to 7 belts and 7 rope tows. The resort has three main sectors are Baqueira, Beret, and Bonaigua that offer stunning vistas and fantastic skiing for all levels.
Val d'Aran is a really wonderful place for all seasons, but winter is particularly exceptional. Most notable is the world class skiing, but the gorgeous vistas, delicious Aranese cuisine, and a cozy atmosphere are also unmatched.
