TC & The Groove Family EPK

TC & The Groove Family are a 10-piece collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures, and the unity that music can provide for everyone. Driven by drummer Tim Cook, their live shows are powerful and dynamic, exploring grooves and genres from the UK and around the world, including afrobeat, breakbeat, jungle, jazz and highlife.

“This is what I've been waiting to play...jazz influences, grime influences” - Jamz Supernova, BBC Radio 6
"First Home delivers as a massively triumphant outing from TC & The Groove Family – sure to be one of the standout releases of the year as well as the official launchpad to far greater successes for the boundlessly talented band" - UK Vibe

Recorded post-lockdown in Spring 2021 with Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, ONIPA), and released in June 2022 through Worm Discs (Snazzback, corto.alto), the bands debut album 'First Home' is a joyous cultural celebration that tackles themes of structural oppression, spirituality and what it means to live in the UK today.

It's aim is to inspire the recognition of community, and push the message that the power is in the hands of the people. We're stronger together than divided.

The record built upon the success of early singles, finding support from Jamz Supernova and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6, J to Z on BBC Radio 3 and Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2. Emily Pilbeam named lead single 'Bossfight' her track of the week on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire, and 2nd single 'Duende' was playlisted on Jazz FM's 'B-List'.

To celebrate the release of the record, the band performed a stripped back, special set live on Soho Radio.

Support on radio developed into the band being noticed by press outlets, with a 5* review from publication UK Vibe. This was a highlight in amongst other positive reviews from the likes of Backseat Mafia and All About Jazz.

This noise didn't go unnoticed by the editorial teams at DSPs, who joined the journey. The band found support across Spotify, Apple Music & Amazon Music, amassing roughly 150,000 streams and selling 250/300 copies of their vinyl to date.

The success of the album led to a busy year on the gigging circuit, with a Spring tour followed up by an extensive festival run. Highlights included appearances at Glastonbury, We Out Here, Shambala and Greenman.

After turning heads with electric, captivating live performances all over the country, the band were also invited to play at London Jazz Festival and Hull Festival in Autumn 2022, selling out both of their appearances. They were also selected as a supported act on Jazz North's 'Northern Line' scheme for 2023.

The band performed festival favourite 'Bossfight' for a live session at EVOKE studios in Leeds earlier this year.

After another busy gigging year in 2023, which saw the band sell out shows across the UK in London, Leeds, Newcastle and Bristol, as well as appear at festivals including Greenman, Boomtown and Bluedot, the group started the rollout of their First Home: Remixes EP.

The project builds upon the collaborative ethos at the core of TC & The Groove Family, with remixers selected to represent different genres, cities and scenes across the UK and beyond. Representing London, Blue Lab Beats’ fierce, trap-fuelled ‘Bossfight’ remix injects a new energy, whilst the subtle ambience and beauty of t l k’s ‘Duende’ sheds a whole new light on the healing emotion at the core of the song. There are also contributions for the junglists from Groove Family member NikNak and Repertoire’s RUNDR, for the bruk-heads from Lyon’s Nikitch, plus a jazz-dance samba remix of Tio, sent with love from Glasgow’s Rebecca Vasmant.

With the buzz generated so far, they aim to start performing in mainland Europe in 2024, and also have a new EP on the way, produced again by Nubiyan Twists' Tom Excell.
