WHAT INSPIRES VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE WITH FORT WORTH ISD?

Watch the short video below and hear what inspires some of the best volunteers ever!

People choose to volunteer for various reasons, even when they have families, jobs, limited resources, and many other commitments that make their lives very busy. Our careers in education take more relevance and meaning when we hear Fort Worth ISD (FWISD) volunteers citing the work of teachers and schools and the importance of literacy for our children and communities as their inspiration to give back.

For some people, volunteering offers the chance to bring out our innate capacity for good by making a difference in the people around them or their communities. For many, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing knowledge. For others, volunteering appeals to them because of its social benefits like making new friends, being part of a team, renewed self-confidence, and life satisfaction.

In a recent and spontaneous survey of a group of FWISD volunteers helping assemble backpacks for new students, we found that most of them had a direct or indirect tie to FWISD or education. They have personally experienced the benefits of a good teacher, school, or quality education which have brought them to understand the value of a well-educated community. Many FWISD employees also volunteer in the community or FWISD on their days off. Regardless of the task or motivation, volunteers find service enjoyable, fulfilling, and rewarding.

Do any of these reasons resonate with you? What can you do to contribute to volunteerism to better our schools and community? Join us in thanking and supporting our volunteers and partners during the 2022 Volunteer and Partner Appreciation Week and every day of the year!

Help FWISD Score with Basketball Camp Participation

Pass the word! The Fort Worth ISD Annual Basketball Camp returns to the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center this June.

A fundamental lesson of team basketball is passing the ball to your teammate, and we need you, Fort Worth ISD employees, to pass the word to students and children in your community that we’re offering a camp just for them!

For $25, students receive a camp T-shirt, breakfast and lunch, and four days of training with FWISD coaches. A series of drills will cover all the basketball fundamentals: shooting, ball-handling, offensive moves, footwork, passing, defensive positioning, and rebounding. Kids will play 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5 games.

The camp is first come, first serve, and accepts the first 120 children who sign up. The four-day basketball camp tips off Tuesday, June 20, and is open to children ages 8-14 (third through rising ninth grade students) at all basketball skill levels.

But we can’t score without you! Contact Coach Troy Bell, FWISD Assistant Athletic Director, today for camp brochure and flyer copies.

Assist us in scoring an alley-oop with camp participation. Post flyers and brochures in a neat and visible space for visitors on your campus to view and share basketball camp details with others.

For additional information, visit fwisd.org/basketballcamp. And don’t forget to contact Coach Bell at 817-815-7300 or email troy.bell@fwisd.org for camp brochures and flyers.
