DuPage wins second consecutive national title

The College of DuPage (IL) Chaparrals claimed the 2022 NJCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The three-day event was held at the Hudson Valley Outdoor Athletic Complex in Troy, New York.

DuPage accumulated 118.5 points over 22 team scored events. The achievement marks back-to-back national titles and the sixth national title for the Chaparral men's track and field program.

The Chaparrals' women's team also claimed back-to-back national titles at the 2022 championship, marking the third time in program history that the both the men's and women's track programs won the national title in the same year (2022, 2021, 2002).

DuPage claimed gold in two and second or third in 10 of the 22 scored events to return the 2022 NJCAA DIII Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship to Glen Ellyn.

Road to Victory

Josh Rivers helped lead DuPage to its second consecutive NJCAA DIII Men's Track & Field Championship title.

Rivers claimed both of the Chaparrals' first place finishers, earning national titles in the high jump and in the long jump. The freshman won the titles with the marks of 1.98m and 7.17m, respectively. Rivers was also took third in the 200m and was a member of the DuPage 4x100m relay team that placed second.

Freshman Anthony Eddy picked up a second place finish in the 1500m run while teammate Diego Villalobos finished second to Rivers in the long jump.

Cardinals finish as runner-up

Mineral Area finished as the runners-up at the DIII men's national meet in Troy. The Cardinals gave DuPage tough battle but ultimately landed 22.5 points behind the national champions with 118.5 team points.

Freshman Hunter Cary won the national title in the decathlon with a total score of 5,045 which was 664 points ahead of second place. Cary took first place in seven of the 10 events. Cary also picked up an individual national title in the 110m hurdles and finished third in the 400m hurdles.

Distance runners Jacob Arnold and Kyle Vinyard finished first and second in the 10000m run, respectively while also garnering third and second place 5000m run, respectively.

Hudson Valley takes third place

Hudson Valley finished in third place at the national meet with a total team score of 76.

Charles Benichoux earned a national title for the Vikings in the 100m dash, sprinting for a time of 10.80. The freshman also placed second in the 200m dash, finishing a less than a tenth of a second behind the leader.

Freshman Isaac Jean Baptiste faired well in the field and multi events, finishing in second place in the decathlon.
