Why rugby is the most dangerous sport By Saylor Bacon Language Arts G block

Most Americans know about American football and how vicious it can be. Rugby is the same way, except the players have no pads. In football, you take time to do plays. In rugby, you are constantly running and tackling for long periods of time without stopping. Due to the high intensity of the sport, there is a lack of preventive measures to prevent injuries. The reason rugby is one of the hardest sports is because players have to be physically and mentally tough at all times.

Rugby is a very dangerous sport and has many injuries. As you can see in the picture above, the injuries can be devastating. Some injuries range from a little bit of blood to going to the emergency room for life-threatening circumstances. Most injuries in rugby occur in the knee or ankle because of the high amount of running and tackling involved. These injuries consist of ACL tears, torn Achilles' tendant, and many other injuries.

Many people think that rugby is a joke of a sport and think it's just a rip off of football. This is not true because rugby has its own set of rules and is actually very popular outside of America. Some people think that the players in rugby fake injuries, which is a major misconception. Because Americans aren't exposed to rugby often, many do not see the severity of the sport and in turn, make fun of it. Most people watch football, so what's wrong with rugby? After all, rugby has the same concept of football, but without pads. This should lead people to believe that rugby is actually harder than football because they're doing the same thing, except without pads.

Football and rugby may seem similar, but the two sports are very different. For one, football has 15 minute quarters and rugby has 40 minute halves. To continue on, football has 22 people on the field at a time and rugby has 30 people on the field at a time. In rugby, the team is allowed up to 7 substitutes. However, in football there is not a limit on substitutions. This is why I think rugby is the most difficult and most dangerous sport of them all.
