Edgewood Intermediate School Classroom Spotlight
Joe Fryer, a 5th grade math teacher at EIS, presented a series of numberless word problems to his students including this one: A teacher has a pack of __ pencils. He can fit __ pencils in each of his students' desk caddies. How many desk caddies will he be able to fill? Mr. Fryer knew that his students had a bad habit of only looking for the numbers within story problems, so he simply took the numbers out for this lesson. The students worked in groups to decide the correct operation that was needed to solve each problem.
