Guidelines for sketching
First thing you need to remember is to alway start with a pencil rather than a pen or anything permanent so that if small mistakes are made it isn't to hard to erase them. With that being said you must also try to draw lightly to see if it will first turn out the way you like it. Once your drawing is outlined then you may began to sketch darker. The last step is to began adding color or details to make it stand out

Once you get the hang out of drawing a cartoon that resembles what your going after, you can start adding your own ideas and details to it. This will make the character come to life the way you want it to.
