Scholastic Art Awards and Lancaster County Young Artists Awards Exhibition

Welcome to the 2023 Solanco Scholastic Art Awards and Lancaster County Young Artists Awards online exhibition, which features the work of Solanco High School award-winning artists whose work has been honored in both regional exhibitions. The Scholastic Art Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, is the longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7 to 12 in the United States. The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers’ mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their visionary work to the world through recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Leaders in the visual and literary arts serve as jurors, selecting works based on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Established in 1923, this year The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is celebrating 100 years of recognizing the nation's creative teens.

Chris Wisniewski, Executive Director of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, said: "Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have championed teens' artistic endeavors and provided a space for creative young people to express themselves, and contribute their voices and ideas to a larger conversation. The original works of art and writing we've recognized throughout the past 100 years have not only been inspiring and thought provoking, but together reflect our country's history, culture, struggles, and achievements. As we enter our second century, our mission has never been more vital, and I can't wait to see what a new generation of young artists and writers shares with us through the Awards."

Abby Bauer, Executive Director of the Demuth Museum and The Lancaster Museum of Art, said: "The Lancaster County Young Artists and Scholastic Art Awards exhibitions are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognize the talent of our local youth. This year's exhibitions are bigger and more diverse than 2022's, simply a testimony to the growth as artists these students have achieved and the dedication of dozens of art educators county-wide. In 2023, we are showcasing 409 works in over 10 different categories from 20 schools. Congratulations to all of the young artists and teachers participating!"

The Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art are honored to host the annual regional exhibition and celebrate the creativity of young artists from Lancaster County. The Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition and the Lancaster County Young Artists Awards Exhibition are on view at the Demuth Museum, 120 East King Street, Lancaster, PA and at the Lancaster Museum of Art, 135 North Lime Street, Lancaster, PA. The work of Solanco artists is on view at the Demuth Museum from March 11 to April 23, 2023.
