5TH GRADE

Native American Dream Catchers

What is a dream catcher supposed to do?

Their purpose was to protect sleepers, especially children, from bad dreams. Native Americans believed that at night the air was filled with dreams, both good and bad. They would hang the dream catcher over their beds. The opening in the center would allow the good dreams to pass down to the dreamer. The weaving would trap the bad dreams, stopping them from the dreamer. These bad dreams would be released with the morning light.
