Adams Update OCTOBER 14, 2022

Welcome to Adams, Mrs. Alexander!

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Kristen Alexander, our new Intervention Para. Mrs. Alexander is helping our students in the areas of Literacy and Math, and we appreciate her support. Thank you, and welcome to Adams, Mrs. Alexander!

Morning and Afternoon Routines--Parking Lot, Rain, and More

School safety is one of our most important responsibilities, and one that extends to every member of the Adams community. A few notes and reminders for you to keep in mind:

  • During drop-off and pick-up times, the parking lot exit closest to the traffic light is for busses only--please don't use it! This keeps traffic moving along safely for all.
  • If it is raining, or very cold (below 10 degrees) in the morning, we will allow students into the building at 8:25 a.m. to wait in the hallways until the first bell rings at 8:35 a.m.
  • Please remember that students may be dropped off at Adams any time after 8:25 a.m.

SEL Moment: Self-Awareness

We are currently working on building our self-awareness. Self-awareness includes identifying our own strengths, limitations, emotions, thoughts and values. Being self-aware leads to increased confidence, optimism and a growth mindset. This also aligns nicely with our PYP Learner Profile, which includes traits such as being principled, balanced, thinkers, inquirers, reflective and open minded. You can encourage your child’s self-awareness by asking them to share something they are proud of or exploring kind words that describe them. Helping your child build self-awareness promotes responsible decision making as well as increasing self confidence, all strengths we want to grow in our children!

Atoms Spirit Wear Day

Show your Adams spirit by wearing your Atoms spirit wear or something blue on October 21.

Next Popcorn Day = Friday, October 21

Our students are looking forward to the next Popcorn Day--it will be Friday, October 21. Popcorn bags are 50 cents. All proceeds from the popcorn days go to our PTO, which uses the funds to support our classrooms. Fun for all, and help in the classrooms, too--nice!

Save The Date - Scholastic Book Fair

The Book Fair is one of our favorite events of the school year! Our Fall Book Fair will begin on October 27; book fair fliers will be sent home next week. The final day of the Book Fair will correspond with Parent-Teacher Conferences, Thursday, November 3. The Book Fair will be open throughout conferences that day, giving all families a chance to shop and find the next favorite books for their families. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this event!

Repeat - Sweatshirts, Jackets, and More!

It was definitely cooler outside again today, as many students noticed when they were on the playground. This is a good time to check winter coats, gloves, hats, and boots, to make sure that everything fits well and is in good condition. We have several community resources that help us provide winter gear for children that need that assistance--if that would be helpful for your child, please let your teacher know, or reach out to us in the school office.

Picture Retakes

Picture Retakes are Monday, November 14 - HR Imaging has a NO QUESTIONS ASKED policy for retakes. If you are not happy with your student's picture, it can be retaken on retake day. Students must bring their original proofing envelope or purchased package and return it to their homeroom teacher to have the retakes.
