2nd Grade Travels to the Homestead

Mrs. Moe and Mrs. Holzheuer's second grade classes traveled back in time, to the Homestead at the Chippewa Nature Center, this Wednesday. Students learned about life in the 1800s, including practicing chores children their age would have been doing (!), learning lessons in the Homestead Schoolhouse, and playing with authentic toys from that time period. Everyone had a good time, but we don't think our students will be wanting to turn in their Chromebooks for chalk slates anytime soon! Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Billette's classes will visit the Homestead next month. Important lesson learned: history is fun!

Adams 1st Grade Partners with Chemics

Our first grade students and teachers send a hearty, Adams "Thank you!" to their Midland Chemic pen pals. Adams first graders have been writing with Chemics throughout the year, and recently their Chemic pen pals visited Adams. Students worked together with their Chemic mentors to publish an opinion writing project and enjoy a pizza lunch. Way to go, Atoms, and thank you, Chemics!

NWEA Testing Ongoing, Now Through Friday, April 21

MPS elementary students take the NWEA Math and Reading tests three times per year, including this month. These assessments help us understand what students know and where they can grow, allowing us to better tailor our instruction to meet specific class and student needs. As your students take these tests over the next few weeks, encourage them to do their best, but also know that this is not a "high stakes test," as there are no decisions made about students based on these results, they only serve to help us better understand how to meet your children's needs. Family reports, including achievement and growth results, will go home towards the end of the month.

Parking Lot Directions

We all know that the parking lot is tight, and becomes very crowded at pick-up and drop-off times. Together, we can all work to ensure that everyone is safe. Today's reminder is that the parking lot lanes are all one-way. When you drive into the lot, the only way forward is straight-ahead, along the sidewalk, past the bus lane, and around the outside of the lot. There are two lanes that travel between the rows of parking spots. The one closest to the school travels away from the parking lot entrance, and the one closest to the road travels toward the parking lot entrance. Thank you for paying attention to the one-way directions, as this will help prevent accidents.

Hello from the Adams PTO!

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Spring Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our Adams PTO, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from April 20 – April 27 in the school’s library. Your student will have a chance to shop with their class during a designated time during this week. Additionally, families may shop on Thursday, April 27, from 5 PM - 8 PM with the last call for book sales and a Kona Ice Truck that you can purchase a treat for your students, and 25% of proceeds will go to the PTO.

Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. If you had remaining funds from your fall eWallet, you must sign in to your account and add the funds to the Spring Book Fair E-Wallet.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
