Principal's Newsletter Patton Middle School - February 7, 2022

Dear Patton Families,

Patton’s long-awaited, after-school learning center, Hawk’s Nest, starts tomorrow! Hawk’s Nest is a flexible learning environment available to all Patton students to complete work, collaborate with peers, or study with UHS National Honor Society members.

Hawk’s Nest will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4:15. All students will sign in and out with the supervising teacher; students must arrive with work and have a pre-arranged parent pick up. Learn more on the Hawk’s Nest page on the Patton Website for more details and to sign up with a UHS National Society Tutor. Contact Mrs. Laurie Palic at lpalic@ucfsd.net with questions.

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams will be held on the following dates:

  • April 25-29: English, Language Arts Testing Window
  • May 2- 13: Math and Science Testing Window

PTO-Sponsored Math Night

The Patton PTO is thrilled to be bringing back the popular Math Night with Mathnasium on Friday, February 11th, 6:00 - 7:15 PM. This will be a virtual event - cost is just $5 per student. Put that "Get More Math" into practice in friendly Patton competition. You will play various math games using Kahoot, Jeopardy, Math Bingo, Kahoot and 24. Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the night. If over 40 people register, Mathnasium will raffle off a premium electronic device (like an iPad, Beats by Dr. Dre or Apple Watch)!

CCIU STEM Design Challenge Club

The STEM Design Challenge Club is holding its first meeting this Tuesday, February 8th! UHS students Aryan Abbaraju, Akash Patel, and Joshua Vallabhaneni are organizing this Patton club that guides and mentors students to compete in the CCIU STEM Design Challenge. The STEM Design Challenge is for small teams of 6th - 8th graders who are challenged to brainstorm, develop, and implement a solution to an engineering problem using various building materials. Meetings will be held every Tuesday in the Patton Library from 3:00-4:15 pm for about 5 weeks. We look forward to seeing you soon!

More FTC News

FTC team Silver Wolves - with 8th graders Brendan Connolly, Katie Connolly, Rebecca Connolly, William Du, Rayaan Enver, Sophie Li, Alex Snyder, and Madelynn Van Aken - recently participated in the Conestoga Qualifier and won the Control Award and are hoping to qualify for the State Championships! Congrats!

Calling All Piano Players!

Do you take piano lessons outside of school? Have you been playing piano for a few years? You may be a contender for the West Chester University pre-collegiate piano competition! And there are cash prizes! See Mrs. Stratton if you are interested.

Yoga After School At Patton: UPDATE

Next 7 week session starts Wednesday, Feb. 16th right after school until 3:45 PM. Join Registered Yoga Teacher and Advanced ChildLight Childrens’ Yoga Instructor, Kelli Dougherty from Sunshine Yoga for after school yoga. A fun hour of yoga sequences, poses, games, calming techniques and relaxation. Questions and to register please contact Kelli at kellirich@comcast.net.

8th Grade Course Selection

Important Dates:

  • Students will watch a presentation learning about blended learning courses at the high school on 2/7 during Hawktime.
  • Weeks of 2/7 and 2/14 - Mr. Huxta will have open office hours in the library. Dates and times will be posted on Canvas and an announcement will be made on HawkTV
  • Parent Course Selection Presentation at UHS on February 10 from 7 to 9 in the auditorium.
  • Course Selection Window Open February 11 - 24

Social Anxiety Group at WCU

Volunteer Opportunity

Attention 8th grade students and families. Longwood Gardens offers a Teen Volunteering Program for students entering grades 9-12. Student volunteers will learn about horticulture and develop leadership skills by helping in either the Conservatory or the outdoor gardening areas. Applications for the summer 2022 program will be available on February 8th and are due by February 28th at 5:00pm. More information can be found by clicking here.
