Dallas ISD LMS Newsletter

This newsletter is designed to share information and innovative practices with campus Media Specialists, and to recognize the excellent work our Media Specialists are doing for our students.

My Librarian is Great!

Our Lipscomb librarian is an essential part of our school! On days we are scheduled to go to the library Ms. Acevedo prepares the cart of books specific to the grade level before we arrive, so students can have appropriate materials to read. She also provides activities for the students to do while they are in the library, so they are never idle. For national celebrations and holidays Ms. Acevedo provides story boards with books, videos and read-alouds for teachers to have materials readily available about the holiday. When we have research projects Ms. Acevedo prepares a basket of books and/or other materials for students to read and obtain information on the topic of research. In addition to all of the above, Ms. Acevedo organizes and manages the Scholastic book fair twice a year for our students to have opportunities to purchase books. Our librarian is irreplaceable, and I hope she continues to serve our school and students for many more years to come! Submitted by Lidia Loarca, Teacher
Ms. Kennard, S.S. Conner Elem Librarian is a kind soul. She never meets a stranger and it is clear she loves her job. Students and staff are eager to enter the library to soak in the rays of Ms. Kennard's radiant light. Submitted by Jerrisha Michael
Our Hillcrest HS Librarian is always making our library a great place to read books. Ms. Canales has a live mascot hamster, rotated out a lot of new books, and decorates the library with plushies and art posters all over the place. She is constantly working on social media to bring library awareness and wants to expand the library into more than just a place for books. She wants makerspaces for students to be able to work on projects and create products of their own. Submitted by Michelle Okura, Teacher
