Memories for a Lifetime

| Just like our season, our trip to Italy was full of laughter, excitement, and memories we will forever cherish.
While some memories consist of touring historical sites such as the fallen city of Pompeii, the astonishing vastness of the Colosseum, or the breath-taking Amalfi Coast, others consist of silly events such as tackling each other into the ocean at the Amalfi Coast or scream singing the song, Chicken Fried, on the bus.
While each individual person has their own favorite memories, one that we all share is getting to play basketball against a team from Sora and a team from Rome. It was a wonderful experience for all three teams because despite language barriers and different rules, we were able to connect through a game we all love! The games were full of competitiveness, hustle, and a few bruises, but each game finished with smiles, hugs, and T-shirts. It was an amazing experience!
Another memory we all share is kayaking on Lake Albano. There was so much laughter and smiles, but thankfully no one got flipped over! There were many funny situations such as watching Sophie and Gabbi try to maneuver their kayak (which wasn’t working out very well), Elyce rocking the kayak while Jordan threatened to hit her with the paddle, and all the players trying to keep their kayaks from banging into each other.
A final activity we all loved and wrapped up our trip beautifully was our beach day at the Amalfi Coast. We spent the day on an ocean trampoline where we jumped like crazy, sun-bathed, and shoved each other off. The best part of the day was, only two people got sunburnt!
Overall, a big lesson we learned during our adventure in Italy, is that life is bigger than basketball. Basketball is one piece of our journey and has brought us many medals, rings, and memories, but it has also brought us connections, friends, and family which was highlighted throughout our trip. Our team absolutely loved our time in Italy. We were able to meet so many new people, try new foods, eat tons of gelato, experience some of the world’s greatest historical pieces, and spend valuable time together. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience and one our team will never forget.
