‘Learning Through The Lens’
Transforming the way learners look at, think about and capture the world around them.
Hi I’m Julianne. A 34 year old self employed Wedding Photographer from Heywood. Previously a level 3 Teaching Assistant working in primary schools for over 13 years. I never thought there would be a day where I would be working for myself in job roles I have created that I absolutely love! I feel like my journey is just beginning and I have a fire inside of me to help and inspire others to see their full potential and enjoy life to the full. Welcome to ‘Learning through the lens’ my project that aims to share the joy of taking photos with as many people as possible. I want to inspire people to get physically active and outdoors in support of their well-being and mental health journeys. School holiday provision, photo walks, 1-1 tutoring, group sessions and web based training sessions that are full of practical and fun learning for people of all ages, abilities and experience levels. I will be sharing my story, top tips, advice, useful apps and information along way. I believe everyone thrives when they are exploring and being creative.
FOUR BENEFITS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Creativity and Self Expression
Self-reflection and self-expression can be challenging at any age. Photography is an avenue for anyone, children or adults, to engage their creative side, express themselves, and learn more about themselves — by photographing things that matter to them, or capturing colors that appeal to them. Even the simple act of looking at, or trying, something new can expand an individual’s horizons.
Skills Development
Aside from the creative aspect of finding the right subject and framing the right shot, there is a functional aspect to photography, notably in learning and adjusting the camera settings to produce the best results, that engages the technical side of the brain as well. Learning photo editing techniques, using software on a computer, a smartphone or tablet, is another technical skill that will benefit learners.
Mindfulness and Mental Health
Photography, like most creative endeavours, can have a therapeutic effect. It encourages the mind to be in the moment and aware of what’s happening in the world, so that it can be captured with the camera. Photography is fun, challenging and mentally engaging; it can be a distraction from everyday stresses, and provide a sense of pride and accomplishment when a photograph turns out just right.
Physical Activity and Exercise
There’s a whole world waiting to be seen, heard and documented outside the walls of a classroom, and photography is a great way to encourage learners to get out there and experience it. Even when shooting still life or indoors, photography encourages movement, in getting up and around a subject to find the perfect angle.
Photography can have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing. It can boost self-esteem, confidence, memory, and decision making. It can be a form of mindfulness which can help people suffering from depression, anxiety and even PTSD.
