Many would think that an orange peel could not pop a balloon, so many would be incorrect. Now you are probably be wondering why the orange peel would pop the balloon. This is because of the acid in the citrus causes a chemical reaction with the rubber and the oxygen or helium inside of the balloon.
This experiment is very easy to do. All you need is an inflated balloon and an orange peel. All you have to do is squeeze the citrus acid out of the orange peel and the balloon pops. Inside the orange peel is a chemical compound called limonene. Limonene is a hydrocarbon, which means the molecules are made of only carbon and hydrogen atoms. The reaction is caused because some of the rubber balloon disolves in the limonene, making the balloon weak, and then popping.
