WHY NOW? 2022 Bond Referendum

Since the 2021 referendum effort, the District has sought feedback in several community engagement meetings. The support was clear for replacing not only aging Park Elementary School but also reprogramming Hilltop Elementary School with a new PreK-5 to be located at the Middle School and High School site. It was also clear that this new school solution needed to be more affordable to our taxpayers, and other identified facility needs should be addressed separately.

BELOW are EXISTING CONDITIONS AND CONCEPT IMAGES

Lack of Safety and Security

Old, inconsistent security system to allow the office to see who is at the door and then buzz them in. Once they get into the building, visitors are not forced to go into the office. Rather they can get right to the classrooms. Adding a stop in the office where staff is able to physically see a person, allows for more security.

Park Classrooms

The 1930s building tiles are cracking and falling apart and potentially contain asbestos. These rooms will be used if the referendum fails.

The large windows will be switched out with a garage door, and the area will be reconfigured to allow students to work on larger projects such as sheds, mini houses, etc.

GYMNASIUM/ AUDITORIUM

The gym floor is at the end of its life cycle. It can no longer be sanded down because the boards are so thin. Pieces have been patched in all over the floor, causing unevenness and a safety hazard for our students, staff, and visitors.

ADA Compliance

The District's schools are not ADA compliant, so they would all need to be redone once we start building projects to meet the current code.

The base is cracking, causing the top track layer to crack and ripple, making it unsafe for runners. The District cannot use this track for larger post-season competitions due to its condition.

Aging boiler and pipes

The aging boiler and air exchange systems have caused many issues at Park. Shown in the pictures are the boilers that are so old parts have to be specially ordered for them (which has taken a few weeks to receive). Pipes are covered in asbestos. Exposed pipes are rusting, which can lead to many issues.

In the 2019-20 school year one of the boilers went out. Diesel heaters were brought in resulting in two classrooms being closed down. This continued until space heaters were purchased and placed in each classroom.
