A message from our Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a pleasant week. This half term is certainly flying by, with only 2 weeks now until the half term break. The School will close on Friday 21st October and reopen for Half Term 2 on Monday 31st October.

Last night we welcomed over 40 families into school for our annual ‘Welcome Evening’. We were really pleased with the numbers in attendance and it was lovely to welcome back parents ‘face to face’ again into school. It was especially pleasing to see so many of our new children represented by their families.

We hope you found the evening enjoyable and informative and a real chance to get a better sense of what you child’s routines and curriculum are like each day at SJV? The feedback from parents and staff was really pleasing and I hope the evening proves a strong foundation for building lasting relationships between the school and home. As I said on the evening, if you require any support at all with your children, please do contact the school office and we will direct you to the best person to advise and support.

On Wednesday afternoon Ms Nesbitt, the School SENCo, organised our first Open Afternoon of the year. This provided prospective parents with the opportunity to see the school in action. Again, we were very pleased with the turnout and the parents who came, told us they really liked the feel for the school that they got during the afternoon. Ms Nesbitt will happily arrange individual meetings with parents looking for a school place for September 2023. If you know of any interested parents please ask them to contact Ms Nesbitt through the school office.

Next Friday we will celebrate ‘#helloyellow’ day in school. The national awareness day, developed by Young Minds, is an opportunity to get all pupils and staff to consider their emotional well-being and that with mental health concerns they ‘are not alone’. The pupils are asked to contribute £2 funds to the charity and also wear yellow clothing to show their understanding and involvement. In the afternoon, the children will engage in an Art competition, I have set up, to look at how we can all take greater responsibility for the planet; our common home. This will be an ongoing school improvement area this year and I will be letting parents and families know, through this letter, how they are able to contribute and get involved. Watch this space.

With only 2 weeks left of this half term the mood around school remains extremely positive and it is pleasing to see the children remain really well engaged and fully participating in their learning every day. Thank you for your ongoing support in getting each child ready and prepared for school each day; it is really appreciated.

Have a great weekend and best wishes.

Yours sincerely,

Mr A Moloney

Headteacher

Our Catholic School

We are asked this week to put our trust in God and be open to what he has planned for us. We are reflecting on this inspiring quote as a school; ‘Faith and love is everything and nothing is more precious than these’. St Ignatius

Within our Catholic school we have had services to celebrate October being the month of the Rosary. As a school we are going to pray parts of the Rosary throughout October.

The Chaplaincy/GIFT team are thinking about those less fortunate than us and how we can help them during this Harvest Festival season. We are collecting for ‘The Bread and Butter Thing. It is a Streford based food bank charity, who work to make life more affordable for people on low incomes, build a stronger local community and reduce food waste. We are collecting for our Harvest Festival Food items; please send any of these you can contribute into school each day with your child. The Harvest Service will take place on Weds 19th October.

Whilst this list is by no means exhaustive, some suggestions for donations are;

• Cereals

• Coffee / Tea bags

• Biscuits

• Sugar

• Beans/ Beans and sausages

• Tinned meat / Hotdogs

• Soup/Noodles

• Tinned fruit/ Vegetables

In RE lessons, we have been looking at the liturgical year and why October is the month of the rosary. We have been looking at origins of the rosary and why October is dedicated to saying the rosary and how this is reflected in the St John Vianney pillars of prayer.
