Seacoast LGBT History Project Kate Persson Internship Experience Spring '22

Tom is the founder of the History Project and my main contact at my internship. He started the project in 2015 as a way to collect and maintain LGBT history from around NH and the Seacoast. His aim was to create awareness, community, and better access to education on gay history for the next generation.

What Is The Seacoast LGBT History Project?

"Our purpose is to research, document & preserve the history of gay, lesbian, bisexual & transgender people on the Seacoast of NH with emphasis on Portsmouth." -Seacoast LBGT History Project Mission Statement

The History Project works with the gay and allied communities around the Seacoast to host events, raise awareness and funds for education, and create support groups.

Working in conjunction with the Portsmouth Athenaeum and Portsmouth Public Library the History Project inventories and archives LGBTQIA+ media and materials to lend out, archive, and make digitally available to the public.
